Stan Collymore Statement.

Stan has tried and although he could not agree a deal with Ron, we should thank him for trying and move on. If however no CEO is appointed and we end up with Ron trying to run things as before then we are in trouble.

Stan has donated and raised money for a good cause for this club, so for some to say he is in it for himself is a bit harsh.

We have not been party to the conversations Stan had with Ron and seeing some of the speculation on here makes me mad. Please guys all calm down.

Dear all.

On Thursday last I agreed with a handshake, roles and responsibilities to be Head of Football Operations at Southend United Football Club.

However due to an arbitrary change in those roles via an email to me on Sunday evening, I have notified Ron that I no longer wish to engage with him moving forward.

I hope the club employs a CEO in the coming days, that alone will be worth the last 3 weeks.

Vitriol is a bit strong - there were one or two unnecessary accusations of self promotion but most posts have been positive even if many were tempered with an understandable degree of scepticism.

Stan, your proactive engagement has been a breath of fresh air. As you said it is a ‘minority’, not the majority of Shrimpers. There is an idiot in every village as the saying goes and frankly some posters on here take stances based on anecdotal information or assumptions, not in keeping with the facts. Many many people have had dealings with Ron Martin over the years - SUFC players, non playing staff, other clubs, local businesses (I know 100% real examples on unpaid bills etc which I won’t elaborate on but is hardly surprising looking at our dealing with HMRC over an extended period) and had reoccurring issues. He is the common denominator and it is no wonder we’ve burnt bridges, the fact you shook hands and a few days later he moved the goalposts and informed you via email rather than a face to face or at minimum video call speaks volumes.

I mean Keith hasnt responded. Lots of players choose not to answer. Only one I think actively turned us down and one turned us down (because he doesnt like Ron) but then changed his mind.

As a fan base we need to continue the dialogue with Ron. Push for change yes but that’s regardless of whether Stan is here or not. Stan said from the start it needs to be us .. fans .. who fight for change - people took that as “Stan will do all the work for us and save us”. Stan has already started the ball rolling. Let’s continue the positive chats, the zoom calls, without sticking knives into SC, PB or Ron. In fighting and bitterness won’t get us anywhere. We all want a successful club we can be proud of. Let’s wait for facts before we start witch-hunting, eh? We could have a CEO and some real change before the week is out and if that’s Stan’s man and he’s successful then this will have been fruitful, no? If not, he’s at least got us thinking and got Ron thinking too.

Quite right. Earlier in the year Ron's position on a CEO was "I've got someone in mind but they'll only do it in the Football League". Thanks to Stan's, SOS, and the Trust's pressure, Ron has been moved to making this move regardless, that is progress. Of course it's not the absolute best outcome, personally I want Stan involved in an official capacity, but its a move in the right direction for our club.

I recall when the fella from Chesterfield wrote on SZ a few weeks back about how once they sorted off the field matters, things looked on the up for them as the fans rallied round...
Is there any danger of cutting this toxic nonsense and mudslinging directed at coaching staff, playing staff (JW, see other thread), ex-pros (Stan)?

We are where we are, keep the pressure on Ron, keep the support up for the club in any way you see fit, keep some level of positivity towards other fans, we might get back to where we belong sooner rather than later. UTB.

Stan, that's a real shame as your ideas and vision was a breath of fresh air and something that could have really benefitted the club both in the short and longer term.

I hope everyone who decided not to back the approach Stan was looking to bring to the club and “backs” Ron to make the “right decisions” will look back on this and be proven to be correct because right now I personally think Ron and Phil will only take this club backwards even if, short term, we do get promoted back to the football league. PB in full control of this ship with a yes man CEO is going to be a disaster. We asked for transparency and we seem to have ended the Stan situation even further in the dark.
