Echo News Is Southend United deal good for city?

When Woodentop pipes up, it's always seems to be a nightmare. The things he has concerns about have already been discussed to death. Why didn't he mention this 9 months ago? He's a bit late to the party, and seems to want to scupper the deal now it's in the final stage. Season ticket holder, I would have to see it to believe him.

Of coarse Southend United is good for the city.

There are few cities of any worth that don’t have a football club.

Most people will know a city because they have heard of the football club there.

I mean I have been to plenty of towns last season due to footy away games, that I normally would never entertain if it was not for football.

You only have to view the interviews from local councillors in Ipswich what promotion meant to them financially and the numbers quoted regarding visiting fans and income revenue into Ipswich.

Hopefully we can start on that path, but when? Who knows?!!

He’s got a point about importing social problems

Too true. The problems are many. These high rent paying wealthy folk will cause shortages of Prosecco, Moet & Chandon, the Sunday Times, boiling water taps, bespoke kitchens, power showers, Porsches, 4K QLED televisions, Bang & Olufsen sound systems and wood fired pizza ovens. Where will we source our Polish, Ukrainian and Filippino cleaners once these wealthy folk have moved into their Fossets Farm luxury homes eh......?

Luvvly jubbly

I'd urge everyone to try not to get too caught up in the political grandstanding going on.

There's lots of party political games going on, and lots of councillors setting themselves up to say "I told you so" if it goes tits up.

At the end of the day, independent and market-leading specialists have been employed to directly advise on certain areas. Cortland and Cushman Wakefield for market/property due diligence, and 31ten for market/financial due diligence. They're experts in their fields, and have made their recommendations for a reason - because they have done their research, know their stuff and believe it all stacks up.

With all due respect to Ron Woodley, I would expect Cortland's, Cushman Wakefield's and 32Ten's qualified and informed opinions to carry much more weight than his.

"Yes. Under constitution the longest serving councillors are asked in order. He was next"

(From someone I know who knows about this).
And, of course, its a ceremonial role which is why iy can be allocated in this way. So its not like it will bring new found power and influence regarding the matter at hand.

He and his partner go in the 1906 Club every game.. so he is a season ticket holder. Whether or not he is a supporter is another matter!
