The Hammers will look to add strength in depth to their squad when the transfer window reopens in the New Year, and believe the 18-year-old could well prove a star for the future.

Lawson is currently making waves in League One with Southend United with two goals in five starts, after only signing a professional contract in October of this month.

The youngster is contracted to Roots Hall until the summer of 2007, yet if Alan Pardew gets his way, a move to Upton Park will be on the cards long before then.

They can have him and Freddy for 5 million plus Reo-Coker and Etherington

They can have Maher also if they want. This is in exchange for a Pint and a bag of Nobby's Nuts (salted).
