Nile Ranger

Such a complete waste of talent that most of us would give our right arm for..

The biggest myth about Ranger was that he had talent. A career total of about 20 goals because he was really complete bottle job in front of goal, especially one v one. Thats why he has to hide behind the gangster image......Take they away and what have you got.

I think that's harsh. He definitely had talent - I always describe that 17 minute appearance at Sheffield United as one of the most complete individual performances I've ever seen - and even just looking at the clips in that video, his hold up and flick on play particularly with Simon Cox, was clearly a talent.

I was also there that night and have watched that 17 minute myth become fact. That was also as good as gets for Ranger in SUFC shirt.

That was a great 20 mins by the whole team with a touch of luck then some good finishing but in reality less attacking than we were in the first 10 minutes last week. Goals always distort fans memory.

Not true. He was unplayable away at MK (3-0 win) and he didn’t score that day.

Sorry Rigsby, I stand by what I said.

Yeah. 17 minutes. Says it all. About all he could deliver/offer.

In fairness you thought Ron Martin was good for the club, so you hardly can say NR had little/no talent on that reading.

But I suppose with you UEFA coaching badges compared to my FM 09 experience, I bow down to you greater knowledge of the game

I disagree, he was incredibly talented but had such a poor attitude at times and had no idea how to function as a pro footballer or as an honest member of society.

Had he concentrated on his football and applied himself, he would have had an incredibly long and prosperous career.

33 now. Could see the argument a few years ago, that if he made the most of his talent and behaved you could make big £££, but no-one’s buying him at that age regardless of how many goals he scores, and he’s played a grand total of 16 minutes of professional football since he left us in 6 and a half years ago.

Arsene Wenger described young player development (and if they’d make it) like building a house.
Ground floor - Technique
1st Floor - Physical
2nd Floor - Tactical awareness
3rd Floor - Psychology & Desire

Nile reached the 1st floor at a young age, hence why he was at Newcastle but struggled on the 2nd Floor. He’s never been to the 3rd…

Agree, far less talented footballers have enjoyed good careers. He had the ability to have a solid lower Prem / Championship type level career.

He did play nearly a full game at Spalding as well

He definitely had the talent. Remember seeing a few moments when him, Kightly and Ferdinand combined & you could see from the one-touches & movement that they came from a higher level. Obviously it wasn't consistent enough or they wouldn't have dropped to our level but it was still in there.
