Because it is a conspiracy by the Government on football fans in England. All rights and priviliges are systematically being removed by secret organisations, hot cups of Bovril are being replaced by mind-control drugs and rancid burgers are being replaced by tastier objects that are suspected to be tainted by a new version of the MK-Ultra programme previously examined in the 1950s. In this way it is hoped that by the year 2009 everyone will have succumbed to the dystopia being promoted by the current government.

Or maybe it's because they are asking you to abide by the rules and regulations of the football stadium ...

Also say that before th game started some guy who had put his flag up ( think it said Maldon Shrimpers) was asked to take it down. Pretty pathetic as it was doing no harm where it was!
