Reviewing back, none of the playoff finals had ball kids present, so I'm assuming that post was badly written and misleading. I think they were ball kids on a day out, not actually appointed ball kids for the game. I've asked Slough to clarify, but there has been no response yet .... poor kids may be getting unnecessary flack for nothing.

That’s the only reason I can think of, so neither side can get an advantage with the speed of ball return?

It could be to do with the H&S. I found it strange that there were 2 firefighters on call at each end of the ground to deal with smoke bombs/pyros, maybe it was related to that..?
