Elvis - he is the King.
Of course he's a bloomin' hit! He is the only recording artist to have had top 10 hits in 6 decades ("Little More Conversation" counts as an Elvis song, as does "Rubberneckin" - which I'm not so keen on).
He is the greatest selling recording artist of all time.
He has written / performed some of the best songs ever - here's just a few:
Heartbreak Hotel
Blue Suede Shoes
Hound Dog
All Shook Up
Are You Lonesome Tonight?
Jailhouse Rock
Love Me Tender
Return to Sender
(You're The) Devil In Disguise
In the Ghetto
Suspicious Minds
I Can't Help Falling in Love
Always On My Mind
and the wonderfully named Song Of The Shrimps on the B-side of the "Girls! Girls! Girls!" album...

Matt
Didn't his manager used to use songs written by unknowns and insist Elvis got a writing credit on them thus screwing the writers out of loads of cash?
Still like the man and the legend though.
