View Full Version : What would you want the new ground called?

I have gone for the New Roots Hall.

What do you think?

I think we should avoid using Roots Hall, I don't like Fossetts Farm and I hate the 'A' word - Broomfield Hall for me.

The New Roots Hall. Or just Roots Hall.

I would personally like to see what the ground would look like before naming it!

I like Roots Hall because its unique. I think the new ground should have an equally individual name which is drawn from the towns histrory and tradition.

Being realistic I think it will have to have a sponsor.
E.g. The Hi-Tec Arena

As long as it is well underway in the next year, I went for the Centenary Stadium in Broomfield Way

A club our size can't afford to overlook any revenue stream, so I positively WANT a sponsor's name on it to bring in the money. Just about anything will do if it pays!

And the unofficial fans name for the place will be Fossetts Farm - don't know why they put the question on the survey.

I already said that in my Survey, alongside any name from sponsor (which I said, Iam not bothered about it, long its bring funds to Southend Utd for long terms - like Bolton's Reebox Stadium.

The Great Stadium Name thing seems to be a thing of the past - NFL had some great likes Candlestick Park, Soldier Field, Veterans Stadium etc. I think these days its more important to secure a very large sponsor and let them call it what they like within reason - The Natwest Collesium or something might be ok but I wouldnt be too keen on Primark Park.

Should sign a multi million pound deal with nike and name it the Nike Arena

I just went for "Fossetts", although after further thought naming it after Sid Broomfield would be a nice touch.

As long as we don't end up with some kind of cheesy corporate tie in like the "Betterview Windows stadium"

If the stadium name was that of a sponsor then I'd want the stands and other key items to be named in honour of key figures in the clubs past - e.g Sid Broomfiled Stand, Chris Powel Clock, Sir Stanley's Scorceboard with a few toilets named after Barry ' The Fat Judas' Fry!

Appears to be almost a vicious circle. If you build a boring staduim at minimum cost you will get little interest from sponsers. However, if you build a stadium that will create speculation and become a landmark but at a greater cost, the chances are that sponsers will show greater interest and therefore be prepared to flood more money into the project. It obviously a bigger risk to go for something of greater expense but I know what I'd prefer http://www.shrimperzone.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif

surely it would have to be the Stan Collymore car park given how fond of them he's been

Would hate the name FOSSETTS to be included as, historically, the Fossett family were a bunch of landowners and farmers from the Col******r!!!!

Broomfield Way has a ring to it...

Banking on the towns tradition, Pierview Park

I'd be put off including "Fossett" in the name, don't know why but it doesn't strike up a good image for a stadium.

Hmm... too similar to Airdrie's New Broomfield to me...

I could be persuaded to go for the corporate shilling, provided the sponsor is right - so the Adidas Arena would be fine, but the Poundstretcher Stadium would not be my cup of tea.

For the romantics, I've always liked the name the New Kursaal - it'd be unique.

I don't see anything wrong with Fossetts Farm, personally. It has a certain ring to it.

I think it would be wrong to call it Roots Hall, as there can only be one Roots Hall. New Roots Hall just lacks a bit of imagination. It's a good thing Swansea have now found a name for their stadium - just calling it the New Stadium like they did at the start of the season was just plain silly!!

Cannot believe you gave them pretty much the same answer as I did re. the stadium name (The New Hall) and a Broomfield stand.

I went for Fossett's Farm in the survey as that's what it's been called for ages and I guess in many people's minds this will have stuck. It's also pretty unique. I don't like New Roots Hall or Kursaal. I thought the New Den was particularly uninspiring and still feel the same way. I do think though we should name the stands. The Sid Broomfield stand is an obvious as is the Frank Walton stand. Room for a couple more.

'The Cockle Shed'
'The Borough Ground' (Southend Borough)
'Park Lane' must be available if Canvey go tits up?!!
'The New Dawn Stadium', a clever word play but bloody cheesy.
'The Shrimparena'
'The Nelson Ground' (after the pub where the club was founded, especially seeing as they'll lose pre-match custom now)

"and over to chris Kamara at the Farm"

doesn't sound well to me and would provoke some laughters from rival fans methinks
