Venue St Thomas More High School

Kick off - 10.30 am

Opponents Troop Hall - Sceptre League Division 5

Meeting at either Priory Park 9.30am or direct at Thomas More at 9.45am.

Troop Hall are currently unbeaten and will probably be about the same level as Rylands FC who we played a few weeks back at Thorpe Bay High. I'm quietly confident that we're going to chalk up our first victory and hopefully we'll have around 20 players to choose from next week. I'll also be available for selection unless Sutton Sports are short of players (which is extremely unlikely). *

Anyone who has not paid their annual subs by 10am next Sunday will NOT be considered for this game you have been warned !

Please add your names to the list and confirm either Priory Park or Direct. We'll probably need 2-3 cars at PP.

I'm 90% sure i will be there (via Andee http://www.shrimperzone.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif ) but i'l have to check with my under 18 manager as they are kicking off at 10.30am against Basildon Boys at Shoebury. We've got a squad of 17 and with only 1 player out injured i should hopefully be able to make it ...

The problem is nobody likes the fitness part of the training and just want to kick balls about. Maybe now we will see why the fitness part of training is just as important. Instead of moaning lets make sure we do some eh? And dont mean just Mike's 10 min workout to warm us up.

You need to take a note out of Barrys book. Fitness isn't just your 1hr 30 mins training once a week, it's a 7 day a week thing. You need to get down the gym, pound the streets and think about what you eat!

The General
17-11-2003, 10:30 PM
Dave beat me to it. Fitness is your own responsibility really. With only 2 hours at training we cant keep concentrating on the fitness side of things. Its up to the individual to get fit (properly). This kind of dedication and hardwork will guarantee you to get a place in the squad next year and you play regularly ...

Just go out for a 20 minute jog a few times a week and you'll see the benefit. I cant do that as i have a shoulder problem as i used to do a lot on cross country running since i was 10 till about 14. I picked up a injury and couldnt do it for a year hence my ample sized body. I dont want an operation so i just do dont as much running. But luckily it doesnt effect me during the games although one day im sure it will ...

Excuses excuses. No I agree fitness is our own responsiblity but we do need to make sure we do about 30-40mins of cardiovascular type of exercise. That will leave us 80-90mins to practise our footie skills. Maybe when we go to midweek training this will help our fitness. As five-a-side is great for exercise as well as close ball control. Also means the 30-40 mins will not be such a high proportion of the training.

McScriven

I remember back in the day when I was training with Basildon United that they were pushing us so hard that some of the guys were physically being sick over the surrounding fence. A bit extreme but when I use to train we'd not even touch a ball for the first 45mins - 1 hour.

we should do a training just for fitness no kicking the balls around.

I disagree with spending any more than 30/40 mins on fitness during training. As has already been said it should be our own personal responsibility to maintain fitness. I really believe that our main problem is a football one rather than fitness. We have to start concentrating on individual positions and what is expected of those who play there.

Agree to an extent. I do believe that concentration is a key factor but lets not kid ourselfs. We aint that good yet. We have the potential. Its just using the potential.

Its down to:

Fitness
Concentration
Ability

Maybe this Sunday we should talk about what to do with corners, throws etc... before so we know what we are doing tatical.

GNH - For your unswerving support of the team and for your regular voluntary stints as the man in the middle I have no hesitation in confirming that you'll definitely get 45 minutes. (if any of the committee or team strongly disagrees on this point please PM me !).

T'will be a second half appearance and fits nicely with plans I'm already constructing for Sunday.

Despite what the results suggest if we go into Sunday's game with a bit more belief in ourselves I'm confident we can do the business. We're solid enough at the back and play some good intelligent football when we get the chance.

So I have no real problem you playing in this friendly as long as you are not chosen to play over any committed member of SZFC. So I have no real problem you playing in this friendly as long as you are not chosen to play over any committed member of *SZFC. Also in light of the your recent reffing I shall ask the committee to waiver this years Associate Members fee for you. That is of course if you are willing to accept that.
I've been trying to PM you Andee but PM's seem to be down at the moment.

I can guarantee that GNH would not have been picked at the expense of any other SZFC player. Rules are rules but I believe the case I made was a good one. (A qualified ref would cost the club £15-£20 per match for starters).

We'll have somewhere around 16-18 players tomorrow (depending on Snowy and one or two others waking up !). As usual EVERYONE will be getting a run out.

Most people were OK when i left about 10pm, Tony, but some were heading to O'Neills after closing time i think. Dan and Carter didnt look to great (yes ... worse than normal!)

Sorry to bring this thread out of her grave, but I played in this game against you guys and scored 1 of the goals. I believe at the time it was one of your first games.

You only scored once? You must be a goalkeeper then :'(

Who remembers my screaming half volley into the bottom corner in this game then ;)

I can't even remember if I came and watched. I remember being rugby tackled by the dodgy irish barman at the spread, and patsy streaking outside at 9am or something, and i remember reflex. the rest is a blur.

Didn't we beat Rochdale 4-0 as well IIRC?

I like my little cameo on Page 4 of this thread.

Correct - Including a brace from Tes Bramble (i think).

Remember getting down the Spread about 8am or something, and staying there getting smashed til about 10/11pm. No wonder we got stuffed the next day

I have no idea what position I was in but 100% sure I wasnt in goal, your wernt that bad lol.

I remember this game as it was only our second or third ever game together, I left not long after as the original team changed, it was meant to be a group of guys from Tommy More sixth form playing but it soon turned into a team of Canvey boys thanks to the new manager we got, but they seem to be doing ok now.

How many of you guys still play for SZ from that team?

MrB

I think about 6 or 7 of the originals are still actively involved with SZFC.

I was not playing due to the neck injury that plagued me that season, but I remember it was pishing down and I was standing on the sidelines with an ex-Mrs B and ex-Shrimpersarmy's tart trying to hide under a brolly.
