Had a phone call from my old football manager tonight. Apparently he tried to phone Tony, but spoke to Mrs ORM, about a possible game this Sunday. They play in the Sceptre League 2 and have a free Sunday but seeing as you have a match already I guess this is a non starter.
He said next time they are free he'll try again.

They have gone up every season since they joined the Sceptre but the manager wanted to field a load of trialists that he hasn't seen before so it would have been a bit fairer.

Or they could be even better!? LOL. Well we are normally always free so we're ready when they are ...

If I were the gaffer I would say a big fat thanks but no thanks.
This will do us no good at all. We have to play teams at our level or maybe one notch up not 3/4 divisions above were we will be starting. Another 15-0 aint gonna do us any good.

yep plus the lack of match fitness aint good we need to play teams like we are now so we can get an idea of how hard its going to be and we played well as a team just not getting the results.

I spoke to their manager this afternoon to confirm that we were already booked in for Sunday, but yet again we are indebted to Kenny's promotion of SZFC on the Sceptre League website. (this might also answer your Q HS !)
True they are in Division 2 but they had a number of triallists they wanted to give a run out to and their attitude was any game is better than no game.
(p.s. interesting discussion point as to whether we join this league instead of the Southend Sunday League, but that's another matter)

Nigel is a top bloke and he was the guy who lent us a kit for the 5 a side ages ago. I reckon you'd learn a lot from playing a side like them even if you did get beat because they have always been a good footballing side and you could do a lot worse than mould yourselfs on them.

Having played in both leagues I think the Sceptre is certainly the harder of the two. The players are alot younger, fitter and faster. Over the past three seasons I can't remember playing against a team with more then one person over 35. Obviously if SZFC is a physical team then this could be ideal because the younger players don't like a strong tackle but given any space, certainly with teams in my league, they can tear the arse out of your team.
When I played in the Borough Com it was older players, which meant it was more of a passing game and not necessarily based on who had the fastest forwards. Think this is definitely where SZFC would have an advantage ‘cause you've got players like Snowy, S69 and Orm who can foot their foot on the ball and play it about and then also players like Kev and Dan who can have a run when needed.

no worries Tony, I think the fact that the SZFC text now appears next to some topless crumpet has helped draw more peoples attention to it! http://www.shrimperzone.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
yes, Nigel from Thundersley Rovers is a top bloke.
I can't really comment too much about the Southend Sunday League as I have no experience of it and as I've been around the Sceptre for 3 years now doing their website I'm obviously a bit biased http://www.shrimperzone.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif
I know they'd be pleased to have you on board as a lot of the new teams that join aren't half as well strctured and organised as SZFC seem to be. We do get the brunt of new teams joining from the Thundermite/Under 18's league hence the lower average age of most of the teams.
