Righto - in response to overwhelming demand we have an opportunity to hire a pitch at Cupids this SATURDAY - kicking off at 3pm. (Sunday is fully booked).

If we don't do it now the next available alternative will be at the end of July as Cupids confirmed to me this morning that the 5-a-side tourney (we have entered two teams) will start on Sunday 6th June and will go on for 5-6 weeks. Full details are due to be e-mailed to me in the next couple of days.

The match would be open (in the first instance) to all in the current SZFC squad including recent new boys AND paid up Associate Members. We would be looking for 15 players per side based on the youngest 15 playing the oldest 15. If we couldn't muster 30 players from the squad plus associates we would open participation up to other members of the Shrimperzone board to a maximum of 30 names - though we would expect these people to make a nominal donation to the club IN ADDITION to match fees of £3 for over 18s and £2 for 18s and under.

To start with I need confirmation from the squad and associates that they would be available to make sure there is enough interest before booking this up tomorrow DEADLINE TUESDAY NOON.

I will not be taking other names until we make a decision that the game is going ahead.

Doubtful, very doubtful.

Even if I were there I may not be able to play anyway, I'd have to see how my legs felt on the day.

It would be nice to get everyone involved to be there. *Maybe we should go for the later time, make it a pre-season warm up game? *Either that or get some corner flags and go to Priory Park like last year at some point over teh next month or so? We could then incorporate a team night out?

With the short notice I reckon there will be a lot of people not making it and I must admit I was thinking of celebrating my birthday on Saturday, starting at the pub in the afternoon!

This is exactly why I posted the way I did - looking for quick answers one way or another.

I would be more than happy to fix this (i.e. set a date and book a pitch at Cupids towards the end of July) as long as people could contain their excitement over the next few weeks.

BTW - this is not directly linked to SZFCs one year anniversary (more details later) but it would have been nice to have had it close to the date.

I'll still leave this open until lunchtime tomorrow. There is nothing to stop us doing one this Saturday if there is enough interest AND another one at the end of July.

Was it really a year ago that we had THAT match (and stuffed FM's kids)?! Shame I can't be there but happy to have been behind the idea ...

Looking very much like a non-runner to me unless there is a flurry of late support. If Benfleet FC confirm they are available we will try to play them this Saturday.

Still taking confirmations until lunchtime but without decent support I will put this off until late July after the 5 a side tourney finishes. But I will book a date and pitch at Cupids so this is firmly in the diary and we can give it the proper organisation it deserves.

I'll probably have to rule myself out of any footy activities this weekend. The bruise on my foot has now developed into pain all round the foot making walking very uncomfortable.

Yeah sorry about that B but shin pads usually come in handy even if it does ruin your tan.
Seriously though sorry about it I dont remember catching you too much thought it was just a little knock. But you have my apologies for it.

Guys - due to underwhelming support I suggest we will do this the proper way. i.e I will fix a date in late July and book the pitch at Cupids together with buffet if possible and we can make this a proper fully organised occassion to remember.

I'll leave Saturday open for a short while to see if Benfleet can muster a team.

We did and then we wanted to make it bigger and better as well as make money, so we came up with the 5-a-side comp. Unfortunately Cupids is running their own competition so knocked our idea to touch.

All we needed was a a couple of training sessions, we had bout a hour together, most of which had never met before. The overs were lucky !

Still because of that match SZFC was born and everyone now knowz eachother.
