Can anyone tell me if trains run from Southend to Ipswich or do I have to go via London or something?

I am visiting Southend for the first time tomorrow, and will be at the match on Saturday. I am planning on visiting my brother in Ipswich on Sunday and wondered about the trains, and how often they run.

Any info is appreciated. http://www.shrimperzone.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif

London Liverpool street do trains to Ipswich either on FGE or Anglia Trains. The Anglia ones are more expensive but will get u to the destination quicker.

You cant get a train from Southend to Ipswich, you will have to change at Shenfield, i think. But you will have to check out the Anglia/FGE website to find out.

Hope that helps http://www.shrimperzone.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

There are no direct trains, you should take a train to Shenfield (every train from Southend stops there on a Sunday) and change, you may need to change again at Colchester but this is unlikely on a Sunday.

Use the FGE Liverpool Street line (from Southend Victoria) and change at Shenfield.

BUT!

There are quite a few engineering works going on during Sunday 23 November so you'll be taking a couple of replacement bus services as well. For example :

Catch the 10:00 from Southend Victoria and then the provided replacement bus service from Wickford to Shenfield (arr. 10:55). Then take the 11:00 from Shenfield to Witham and catch the provided replacement bus service from Witham to Colchester Station. Then catch the 12:03 from Colchester to arrive in Ipswich at 12:27.
