View Full Version : Training last night

Not a great deal to add to last nights training, I think we will have to look at picking the teams rather than just who turns up in a white shirt we will have the bibs after today so this will help.
Apart from one or two very good individual performences last night was very poor no movement was the worst thing so many times players didn't show for the ball and when we passed it we just stood still,in a tight area like the pitch we train on you have to control the ball quickly pass the ball and move for the player on the ball to give him an opotion so many times last night this didn't happen and the player on the ball with no options just gives the ball away. The main reason this happens is players don't feel comfortable on the ball, two your football brain is not swithched on and you can't see the movement that needs to be made,
three, you feel that midweek training is just a kick about and you don't have to put the effort in.
My last point is the amount of new players that I have seen in the last two weeks turning up for training on Sunday and Wednesday I am sure the committe will make these players aware of the rules that they need to follow to be part of the club if you take last night and add the players that couldn't make it we would of had nearly 30 player last night( something to think about).

Yes have to agree, not the best training we've had. When we put the teams together we seem to end up with one team of 7 defenders and the other team with seven attackers. There was no real structure to either team last night and people playing all over the place.
Maybe we should make it three teams a week and rotate, at least that way we'll get more space and should be able to produce a higher standard of passing and alot less bunching.
Also as Colin said, can we find out if the new people turning up will be playing for us next season because the squad is getting very big and need to be certain how many of them actually plan to be playing when the ****ing rain and cold comes.

Funnily enough I really enjoyed it last night, but maybe that was because I felt fit for the first time in ages.
But yes, we need more space and less players.

Apologies for non-attendance - Got back from Brocket Hall at 9.15pm after 27 knackering holes.
To cap it all I have a new mobile phone and haven't uploaded the contacts into it yet.

It weren't as good as last week I felt, but the teams do need to be picked via the captain system. I felt the standard wasnt that bad as everyone is making out as there were a number of good moves, but the movement was very bad in our own half, esp. when the kepper gives you the ball, countless times we ended up back at the kepper in a 1-2 move, which btw is no allowed in 5 a side (most of them).

well, speaking personally, the movement was poor at times. Apart from Snowy and Simon, nobody would come inside to look for the ball, it was all hoofing up the line

Some good performances, and some very bad performances last night. No name to be mentioned, but those that were cr*p, you know who you are!!
Dont really think the teams were uneven, just think the 'Colours' moved around alot more than the 'Whites' and gave each other better options.
Naps, think the reason you had such a good session was due to the amount of defending we were doing.
Half way through the session I found myself thinking "Is this really worth it" there were too many players out there who expect the ball to arrive at their feet wherever they are standing. If you are on one side of the pitch, with various players between you and the ball, why on earth call for a pass!!
Also there was a distinct lack of movement from the 'Whites', maybe picking teams is an option, but surely this can be demoralising for the players picked last!!!

I cant see that any player will be picked last Snowy,we just need to make sure we have a good balance of defendes and Attackers in each team I understand what you are saying but if the people picking the teams ie me and ORM, SAY i picked Carter to go on one team and Bob Cratchit to go on the other that should not demoralise either player I just felt the whole balance of the teams last night was wrong. If we picked the teams starting with the so called best players first then yes the last one to be picked would feel ****ed off but thats not how I would do it.

Re: New Players. Can you please let Colin or Tony (the management team) know (by PM, Phone, Email) if you are bringing people to training with you. We cant really just have people turning up especially if they just want to have a laugh and a game of footie. If they are serious about joining, they need to:
a. Give us £10 to sign up.
b. Be a Southend fan.
c. Member of Trust (or give us the £7)
d. Sign up on SZ forum
All are pretty important really.

I agree with you comment leeboy about snowy and Si (I will add KEV) but with the pitch width i think it was better to go down the line but also yeah me and others on our team could of moved more!
Owell To late now!
I didnt brake the rules about bringing some one new i had asked tony and he said as long as he follows requirments fine! and yeah he is looking to join us for next season!(if wanted)
and hes a blues fan and signing up to the boards today so is he ok Kev??
I think it's only fair that we warn any potential new players that they can't expect to pay their fees, train in the summer and start playing league football in September. They need to be aware before signing up that we have a very large squad and many players will miss out on match days. By my reckoning anyone signing up now will find it very difficult breaking into the team with 20 committed team members in front of them. Obviously if they are aware of that then fine.

B's has got it pretty much spot on. I think we have about 25 players signed up and anymore new recruits dont have a chance of being involved next season. The only hope they have if is we get to the stage where we have a squad of about 35-40 players, which will mean that there will probably be 2 teams. We obviously can't enter 2 teams for the forthcoming season (04/05) but come 05/06 we could have 2 teams playing in the Sceptre League. However, we do need at least 36 regulars (2 squads of 18) for this to happen ...

Well Ken better sell the superior motor you drive for the benefit of the SZFC 2nd team. Or we could make everyone who wears gloves during the next season to pay £60 match fees.
Anyway let us not stand in the way of growth over something as minor as cash.

In Spain all top flight clubs are required to register a fixed first team squad of 25 players for the whole footballing year. (A window does however open up for one month from mid-December allowing players who have not played more than say four games for their clubs in the season to be transferred.)
Maybe SZFC can start the trend in England?
