View Full Version : South Upper refreshment kiosks

With winter on it's way I'd like to see them opened up again. I fully appreciate that a certain number of supporters will take their own hot drinks to matches but when it's two degrees on a wet Saturday afternoon I feel the club will miss out on some revenue should they remain closed.

Also, with the present situation, queueing for upwards of 15 minutes at halftime to get a snack just isn't an option to a lot of people.

Anyone else from the South Upper have an opinion on this?

Mr King has publicly stated years ago that the bar in the SU would be opening soon, trouble is he didn't say what century.

I too remember something along those lines being stated a while back. It surely wouldn't take much to clean them up, stock them and staff them on match days.

We all know that someone from the club reads this board and with the amount of posts that have been made recently on various issues that concern us the supporters perhaps they will take some of them on board and seriously consider re-evaluating their policies.

In the meantime I'm off to Tesco's. I feel a new flask is required http://www.shrimperzone.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

do you mean that the club should take some supporters on to the club board?

Surely that can't be http://www.shrimperzone.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif

That would infer that we as customers know what we are talking about, and know good/poor customer service when we see it http://www.shrimperzone.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/ghostface.gif

Weren't you aware that when when you pull on a replica football shirt on a matchday, you immediately get transformed into a moron with no civil rights! Especially on away days!!

And dare I say it, we are all amateurs & have no understanding of business, catering or any other aspect of running a football club http://www.shrimperzone.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/down.gif

Well that counts me out of being a moron.
The club shop don't stock sensible 'big boy' sizes in the replica shirts so I ain't got one.

(Oops I think I have now taken this well off topic http://www.shrimperzone.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif )

Where the f%&k are the new stadium poll results from about 6 months+ ago....

I didn't waste 10 minutes of my work time, not to see the results.....and maybe the signed Freddy shirt, as stated would be given to the winner of the draw...

Is this before or after the Club Poll regarding other stuff relating to the general running of the club and the "Ask Geoff" Questionnaire sent out?

Anyone spot the price hike in the tea bars tonight?

On Saturday a coffee is 90p and a Mars Bar 40p

Tonight the coffee is £1.30 and the Mars 50p!!

As I said to the bloke running the tea bar, "Sorry, you won't see me again!" and he replied, "I don't blame you, the price rises are scandalous."

What with the 20p across the range rises in the bars, I've voted with my feet!!

what did I say earlier - "keep the customer satisfied!"

From spending at least £15 at Roots Hall on a matchday on refeshments, I'm now spending a big fat zero!

I'm with ya all the way. Flask, sarnies and a KitKat from my local Spa from now on.......that's my usual tenner they've lost.

You know why the coffees gone up don't you?........it's now Kenco, and in bigger cups too.
SUFC have gone all up market on us.

A boycott of the extortionately over priced refreshments currently available by a few hardy customers is not going to make a blind bit of difference to Southend United.

They lose 50 because of the price increases but have possibly 20 to 30 times more than that, compared to last season, that will quite happily pay the prices.

Market forces I'm afraid, or as I like to call it. Screw the customer for all his worth, there's always more numpties out there.

Bit of sarcasm Terry http://www.shrimperzone.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif I have no idea but I feel it's a case of 'Hey, we've got an extra 3,000 supporters each game now, lets wop the pices of everything up in the full knowledge that what revenue we lose from disgruntled die hards we'll more than make up for in new punters to The Hall'

Simple demand-price elasticity. Enough people will buy at the new price to offset the rise in prices to make a bigger revenue.

Of course, if they've got their sums wrong....

No, please, protest loudly, I just think it'll fall on deaf ears, the club is out to make money after all. Where we buy the goods on a personal level is a matter of personal choice. Buy them or not, the club will only take notice if there's a dramatic hit on takings

Or get a one-cup flask thingy.

Our matchday catering as a whole is shambolic to be honest. All the way from food available to speed of service to location of kiosks to the silly prices.

When we eventually have our AGM (its way over a year since the last) I will certainly question the Club. We need professional caterers for a start.

How can you charge £1.30 for a Tea Bag and some water!!!

But it's not just a teabag and water, is it? It's overheads as well, player wages, buildings upkeep, etc, etc.

Catering shouldn't be used to finance this though - it should be a seperate entity used primarily to fund enough stock, staff wages and the upkeep of the Kiosks.

Anything else should just be seen as a bonus! (or used to pay for a 'proper' caterer?!)

Why not? The club, last time I looked, was £6m in debt. We as a club have come periloulsy close to complete financial meltdown. Every little bit helps!

I know a lot of people who drink in the club bars and snack at the teabars in order to put money into the club. However what I am hearing now is that they are fed up with the poor service and top loading of prices and are making other arrangements.

And that's the way it should be.

The club will do well to remember this if we end up with an average attendance of 3,000 again!

Exactly, the prices may not seem so bad if we had the quality and service to go with it!

With regards the debt, none of us quite know what it is, but I don't think its anything like £6m following the writing-off of the extortionate 'rent' for Roots Hall.

Hmmm. This rent was always 'deferred' and not calculated into the overall figures, so I stand by my £6m.
