He spoke to Tilly first though and was due to be offered something if Maher turned us down. Couldn't hang around and wait for Big Kev, so he signed for Shrewsbury. Also offered deals by Barnet, Aldershot and Chester. Not surprising after scoring 14 goals in 18 games from midfield!

He played more than that - I was just quoting his early season form. He dislocated his shoulder in about March time and had to have an op which meant he missed the rest of the seaon.

AS - Ben's mates are big fans of your work! If you type in "Ben Smith footballer" into a search engine, apparently your "Bun Smith" article comes up. Good news for a bloke trying to make a living in a career with a short timespan on not very much money! Not knocking you sir, as I know your stuff is very funny and funny always has it's casualties, but it's a shame if prospective managers read that article......

The article was spawned after we spotted Ben gorging into a monster burger...hardly recouperation food! anyway, I do feel sorry for Ben, he had a lot of expectation riding on him and its a shame we never saw what he could do....

When he plays us next season he'll be thrilled to find out he can now have a drop of burger sauce on his burger.
