Still cannot believe Panesar isn't playing especially as Warne seems to be getting plenty of turn on the first morning

138-2.
Slow going, but I think the key is to wear down the Australian 4-man attack. McGrath has probably only 6 overs left in him today.

224-3, Pietersen has been taking Warne on - has been great viewing this morning, pleased I got up at 5.30am to catch the whole final session. Collingwood is 78 not out and Pietersen 40 not out.
Now let's keep this up until tomorrow evening http://www.shrimperzone.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

So, what's the story with Glenda? *Is he not 100% fit? *If so, we need to go after him, big time. *Ultimately, he with the ball and Ponting with the bat (*) are the main differences between the sides. *With an unfit Glenda, we have a chance.
Great effort by Colly & KP. *Oh, and what in God's good earth is up with Strauss at the moment... yet another wicket tossed away.

(*Some sobering reading for you... without looking, you have guess what Punter's average is in the seven tests he has played this year... PM me if you want the answer)

Was also up at 5.30 to watch the final session. Good to watch. Much better than the first 2 by the sounds of it. The key is to bat for most of the 2nd day and tire out the Aussies in the field - after all there's a reason they didn't enforce the follow on in the 1st test, to give their players a rest.

Oh, and a slice of humble pie for me, please. Having slated Fletcher over his treatment of Jimmy Anderson to date, I have to say that deep down I am rather impressed that Fletcher has had the courage of his convictions and stuck with Jimmy for this Test match. Here's hope it gives Jimmy the morale boost he so desperately needed after events in Brisbane.

98.something or other this calender year.
Strauss seems to be like me when it comes to anything other than a pull or a hook shot - fecking useless. Three times he's gone cheap due to a stupid shot.

Ponting is averaging something like 116.
Mind you Mohammed Yousef is averaging something similar and England beat his Pakistan team 3-0.
You don't have to attack McGrath, he can only bowl 18 overs in a day. See him off. Warne is the player England need to score off. If we can force Warne out of the attack they have to turn to players like Michael Clarke to bowl.
Last night England reaped the benefit of that 4th day in Brisbane when we kept them out in the field. With back to back tests, it was critical that we tired them out and boosted our confidence.
Tomorrow/tonight (whenever it is) we need to take advantage of this situation and look to double our score.

Decent effort by England, the trick now is to keep the Aussies in the field for the best part of tomorrow, and maybe let them have a very uncomfortable 45 minutes at the end of the day.

Close... 105.8. Yousuf is 99.33 this year - but over 11 Tests rather than Ponting's 7 Tests.
Question is: what sort of score do we need to get them properly on the back foot? You sense that 450 is probably the target; whether we make that target is down in no small measure to the current pair, and how long they last tomorrow morning...

They were saying 500odd in the drinks break before Strauss got caught - I stopped listening after that. Bit difficult to stay up all night reading with the cricket on the radio.

Hopefully we will kick on big time tonight and build a really good score, which will put the Aussie batsmen under loads of pressure
McGrath's first over on and KP hits 3 boundaries! 300 up, partnership at 130+, both players looking steady. Let's hope these two can see it through to luncheon.
Ton up for KP, a great innings and partnership. Time to hit the sack and concentrate on tomorrow's game.

551/6 dec - great stuff from England.
Langer is out, I hope we can roll over Ponting before stumps, that would be a great first couple of days.

Best part of the day for me was seeing warne have to go on the defensive for an age, pietersen seems to have him in his pocket
Oh dear.. How quickly do Oz's old men Warne and Mcgrath suddenly look lik eworld beaters again.. A shocking defeat and I think (from a stats point of view) it may be the worst ever in respect of our first innings score http://www.shrimperzone.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif

Definitely not a good result and the series has all but gone now, along withthe Ashes.
Why do i get the feeling the last 6 months sport wise has been not as good as i'd hoped!
Because the previous 3 years has been better than you could have dreamed of..?
Anyone know how many OBE's and MBE's we had out there today.. http://www.shrimperzone.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Not wanting to seem wise after the event, but I said to Mrs. Kilt when they declared that I couldn't understand why he had. Surely to win we needed to bowl the aussies out twice, therefore needed to enforce the follow on, and the bigger the score the better for that.
I would have thought also that it would have been *good psychologicaly to have tried to push the score past 600. Is it because Flintoff is inexperienced or am I not understanding the position? http://www.shrimperzone.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif

I think when the declaration was made it was the right time as it gave the Aussies an uncomfortable 45 minutes where they lost Langer. Also the ball was still new the next morning and the early wickets of Hayden & Martyn proved that. However missing Ponting which cost over 100 runs was crucial in the end. I am not saying England would have won from there but letting off the bloke who is currently the best in the world speaks for itself.
What could not be legislated for was the total lack of application shown by the batsmaen in the 2nd innings, although it has to be said Strauss copped a crap decision.

Also we didn't score fast enough in the first innings..
The run rate in the second innings is a subject best ignored.. http://www.shrimperzone.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/glare.gif

I thought the same. So, getting Langer before close looked to make it a good decision. However, I thought a score of 600 puts you completely safe from defeat, whereas 550 gave the Aussies an opening, if that batted well enough, to still be in the game with a shout at winning. Had we batted on on that second day and closed around 600-620, the Australians would have only been able to compete with our score by batting for the next two days, nad we would have not been subjected to the torture of yesterday morning.
Of course, we all know that the same XI will take the field in Perth because Fletcher is intransigent.

550 Should not have given the Ozzies an opening.. No team has ever lost a test from that position before.. Its all a tad embarassing http://www.shrimperzone.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif
