Just read that he has been appointed new coach. Disappointment for those who would ahve preferred Moody.
Seems Moores is a bit of an unknown quantity, even amongst the press and commmentators, as no one seems to have much of an opinion on him one way or another. Without clamour for his appointment, he will have to get off to a good start to avoid criticism early on (as Maclaren has found).
A trouncing of a Lara-less W.Indies would be a nice start..

Moores didn't play international cricket, but had a long and fairly dsitinguished career with Sussex. He's credited for having turned Sussex around and made them one of the best sides in county cricket.
One thing he didn't do, was produce a string of internationals. Sussex's success was based on Mushtaq Ahmed, Rana Naved and Murray Goodwin. The only test player they've produced in the last decade would be Kirtley (with his dodgy action), although Yardy and Prior have recently played ODIs.
Has this decision been rushed into? I think it has, but to be fair to the ECB, his appointment to run the academy wasn't. If they identified him then as the successor to Fletcher fair play.
To be fair, he's going to get the most gentle introduction ever so by the end of summer will probably be lauded as the saviour of English cricket despite most people forgetting that Fletcher resided over one of the most successful periods ever (was it 4 or 5 successive series wins?). Shame that Fletcher will ultimately be judged on the last Ashes and this World Cup when it's pretty clear to all that we're a long way off being a decent one day team and the Ashes was our worst series in some time.

There's a nice symmetry about Fletcher's reign: he was boo-ed during his first and last series!
In between we were awesome at times, and just adequate at others, but we were rarely poor. That's a really tough act to follow. On paper the Windies are probably just about the best team to get first up, but Moores will be under pressure to repeat Fletcher's clean sweep of them.
