With those lists, I think we can safely say that 2003 is not going to go down as a vintage year, is it?
Probably the only story I can think of is whether The Darkness get consumed in post-ironic glam rock foolishness, or whether instead they can sustain it and take over the mantle left by Queen. I think there's room for them in the world of pop-rock - it's interesting to see whether they take up the challenge.
Am I the only one who think that The White Stripes are a massive case of "the Emperor's New Clothes"? Can't stand them myself - she's not a good drummer, he's not a good singer, and they've offered feck all apart from a catchy riff in 7 Nation Army.
The only singer who's pushed up the Walker thermometer this year was Blu' Cantrell - thought "Breathe" was an excellent single; but that's been about it (other than The Darkness).
I've also a suspicion that Athlete might be rather good - am planning on investing in their album at any rate. However, it makes one wonder why their music hasn't been pushed far more strongly on the music/video channels... their exposure is, at best, peripheral.
Enough from me.

Athlete have released Westside, El Salevor, and Beautiful. Not sure if 'You've Got The Style' is going to be released/or has been but its the best song on the album. Well worth having.
The Whites Stripes. The Hardest Button to Button is just as likeable as Seven Nation Army and have been nomiated for 3/4 EMA's this year.
Im a rock fan and its great to see the pop industry going down the pain and rock has come alive again. Good Charlotte and The Darkness have gone 'mainstream'.
Forgot to mention The Thrills as well. Big Sur and Santa Cruz are 2 quality tunes and they have a new single out soon but the name escapes me.
Im sure next year for some of these bands will be 'make' or 'break' year as for many its there first album (or the first one the mainstream have heard)!
The music has been its best for an age for me as bands like Hot Hot Heat, Athlete, The Thrills, The Darkness have appeared and Linkin Park produced another master piece.

Oh btw, Athlete's songs all sound the same, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs stuff has already been done in the 70s, and Blu Cantrell was a former porn star. Go on, google it.
Oh and is Sean Paul on every frigging song? He's done well for a former bank clerk from North London.

I agree that Blu Cantrell sucks (literally that is ...) and 'Breathe' only sounded good 'cos of the Enimen tune it was played with ...
As for LP. You either hate them or appreciate them. Im not going to argue with you on that one ...

Hmm. Not in any real order:
Linkin Park - Meteora
The Darkness - Permission To Land
Evanescence - Fallen
Nickelback - The Long Road
Can't really class the last Foo Fighters album as a 2003 album so I can't really name a 5th. I've got the Electric Six album but apart from the 3 singles released and 'Naked pictures of your mother', I don't really rate it as a top album. I'm about to download the Kings Of Leon album as well as Elephant by the White Stripes (even though she must be the most talentless drummer i've ever heard) so i might be able to add one of those to the list when i've got them.

Really? *He has done well. *Generally, I think he's extremely overrated; however, I think he worked well with Ms. Cantrell on "Breathe".
The fact that it overlays an Eminem track is, with respect Kev, irrelevant. *It is a feature of modern music that copying - indeed, complete imitation - of earlier songs is something that goes on. *It doesn't mean that the new song is worthless, merely that it must be judged in its own right.
My favourite example of this: Don't You Worry 'Bout A Thing, which was written and first performed by Stevie Wonder, is an excellent song. *Don't You Worry 'Bout A Thing by Incognito - entirely a cover of Stevie's song - is also an excellent number.

The Kings Of Leon album is indeed fantastic. The White Stripes once again prove their sublime brilliance. I quite like the Athlete album in a non-challenging, just down my alley Brit-pop kind of way. An album I bought this year but I suspect may indeed have come out last year is The Electric Soft Parade's debut - really underated but in my opinion one of the best debuts in a long time. And of course the truly amazing, never fail to please Super Furry Animals (Leeboy, you should have gone the other Saturday mate - the encore of The Man Don't Give A **** was worth the trip alone!).

Hmmm not sure I've heard any of those albums. In fact I'm not sure whether I own an album made in this millennium, although on second thoughts I'm guessing that John Digweed's MMII was made in early 2002. http://www.shrimperzone.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif
I certainly don't own any of the albums mentioned above and don't think I've knowingly heard any of the songs from those albums (apart from best of REM). If I have heard them then they've all merged into one bland noise. I get my Westzone/ Boylife/ Limp Blinkin 121 park/ Spice Girls Aloud get Busted etc confused - to me they all sound the same bland cr*p. In fact they don't just sound the same they all pretty much look the same (girl band, gayboy band, girls and gayboys band, 'gangsta' or scruffy). Now I like staring at Kylie's arse or Britney's tits as much as the next man (assuming he's not in a boy band) but when I turn on my radio I'm more concerned about what that band/individual sounds like, not what they look like. To compound matters radio play-lists will repeat the same cr*p every hour. So I just stick to my CD collection (which it seems is fortunately larger and more varied than a commercial radio's) and ignore the radio.
Does that just make me an old git? http://www.shrimperzone.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

Sorry to drag this back up to the top. It's incredible to think that at the time of the last post in this thread, Wignall was still in charge and if anyone would've said that Collymore was likely to be the next manager, they'd have been laughed at like no tomorrow.
Anyway, after downloading the album "More Than You Think You Are" by Matchbox Twenty, i have to say that it goes flying up on to my list. It's superb, a classy Rock and Roll album that has some brilliant songs on it. 'Unwell' and 'You're So Real' are probably my favourites and i recommend that anyone who likes Rock music gets it. http://www.shrimperzone.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif http://www.shrimperzone.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
