A stab in the dark...most not outs?

A stab in the dark...most not outs?

Something tells me that that particular record is owned by Bob Willis.

As far as the Atherton question is concerned he might have batted for some part on each day of a test match on more than one occasion. Or is it to do with captaining England for more matches against Australia than any other England captain?

I think he holds a few.

Most games as England captain.
Most times dismissed by one bowler (Glenn McGrath).
Lowest average of anyone to have scored 6,000 test runs.
Only batsman to be run out on 99 at Lords

Ah, good shout, YB. I think this record he would be most embarrassed by.

I'm not sure whether Bob Willis is a record-breaker, but I always think he sounds like a broken record.

Sweatiest box following an innings? Following the 185 he scored at Cape Town.

I've given you 4 records, how many more do you want?

Is it do with Lords (as that is where they are playing)? eg most runs at Lords without a century.

Is it a captaincy record? eg most defeats as captain

Is it a batting record? eg was dismissed more times by McGrath than anybody has ever been dismissed by a single bowler.

A few clues wouldn't go (Dennis) amiss.

It's to do with batting.

Most ducks by an England opening batsman?

I had the "pleasure" of going to a sportsmans dinner at which he was speaking. All his stories were about Beefy, and he spoke like a broken clock. Very, very monotonous and dull.

Most ducks. Never mind the opening bit.

Freddie Flintoff 15 ducks in 66 matches doesn't make too great reading either.

Eh? Courtney Walsh, Shane Warne, Glenn McGrath and possibly A.N.Other will all have more tests ducks than Atherton.

You should have specified it was an English test record, not a test record.

Erm, that does specify England record!

A very surprising and interesting statistic!

I always felt Atherton was an overrated batsman, his record against Australia was particularly disappointing. He was a poor man's Geoff Boycott

One of his big problems against Australia was playing a couple of series when he really shouldn't have. His bad back problems made him virtually immobile and IIRC there were a couple of series against the Baggy Greens where he only averaged about 20, maybe even less.

How galled will Atherton and Thorpe be to think that their names will never appear on the Lord's Honours board, while Cook & Bell have got theirs up there twice, Prior's is up there after his first Test, and even Rob "Supersize me" Key has got his name up there as well...?
