I have just read on the hull rival site . A nd it has been reported that in the first day of training .LEON CORT has broken his toe on a treadmill and will miss the first 4 weeks of the new season .Oh dear Ha Ha Ha what a shame dont we all feel sorry for him . http://www.shrimperzone.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif http://www.shrimperzone.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif http://www.shrimperzone.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif http://www.shrimperzone.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Why are you laughing in his misfortune?

Cort only left because he wanted higher league football. SUFC matched every wage he was offered at Hull but he wanted to try at a higher level and you can't blame him for that.

Well I am sorry dave but I dont think to many fans will agree with you . A lot of fans were unhappy at cort leaveing .

We got him for nothing. He left for nothing.

In between we got some good performances. Get real. We don't have to hate every player who leaves to play in a higher division.

Up the blues.

Personally I think a lot of fans WILL agree with Dave.
What exactly has Cort done wrong?
How long should he have stayed at Roots Hall before he was allowed to move on to play football at a higher level?
And what message does it send to any other squad member that if they play well enough to attract the attention of a higher league club, the fans will hate them for it?

Best of luck Leon - hope it all works out in the end.

I got no sour grapes with Cort, but I still think he has been way over rated from my humble view whilst playing for The Shrimpers.

Besides shouldn't this be in another forum bit...Ex-Players one?

I give Leon the respect he deserves. He pre-warned us that he had been offered a good deal fron Hull, and that it was likely he'd take it. He'd been a good servant to us for a few years. Scored a few goals. Got a hat trick at THAT memorable game.Could easily emulate the success of his brother. In fact done everything we could have asked for.....

when I heard he'd broke his toe, I must admit.......

I still laughed like Muttley http://www.shrimperzone.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Agreed, although I'm not convinced he'll make the grade I don't think we can begrudge giving him the opportunity and it wasn't exactly a bombshell dropped out of the blue.

Now the other Leon, that would have been funny.

I personally don't think there is that much difference in the standard. granted the championship he simply would not be good enough!

It never ceases to amaze me how some "fans" treat players.

We choose to support our club and pay for the privilege.

Players don't play for us through choice... it is through the necessity to earn a living. As soon as a better deal comes up, they're off, and you can't blame them.

Hate players because they serve you badly, not because they want to better themselves. Leon served us well. He will be welcome down at the Hall as an opposition player. I don't think last season he did himself justice but he always gave us 100% and that's what I want from a player.

So get over it.

I doubt he'll play much for Hull this season, especially if he's missing until mid September.

In amongst all this, no-one gives a stuff about the treadmill. Was that damaged?

I think Petejan may have his Leons crossed!

I don't feel bad towards Cort. Some may doubt his ability - and that's fine - but he was a good servant to the club. A bigger club came along and he took the opportunity to test himself at a higher level.

He didn't lie to us... he was honest.

Good luck Leon CORT!

Have to agree with Scriv (yet again!).

Leon Cort did his best for the club whilst he was here. He left, when out of contract & without trying to arrange some sort of pre contract agreement at Xmas, to go to a team who some Hull fans I know really believe are on the verge of bigger things. To work with a man who may not be the best manager in the world but has undoubted talent at coaching at almost the highest level. Fair do's to Leon you are looking to the future & I like many wish you a speedy recovery.

As for the other Leon he did most of these the other way round, but we'll have the last laugh when Fat Barry Scumfry gets Posh relegated.

I'm with Hooly, OS, McSriv etc on this one.

I feel no resentment towards Leon Cort at all - he gave Southend three good years and I wish him all the best. Hope he recovers from his injury soon.

I think you're in a minority here. Leon Cort did nothing wrong, you can't fault the lad for having ambition.

Leon always gave his all and was one of the best things to come out of the last Webb era. He was pretty consistent and we will definitely miss him. We should wish him all the best, understand his reasons and get on with it. Why hate every player that moves on Pete? Never left a job for better prospects elsewhere?

Prophet of Doom!
09-07-2004, 10:06 AM
I am with the majority here and agree that Leon did what was right for him and made no secret of his thoughts.

Leon Constantine also did what was right for him and under the circumstances it appears the club did all they possibly could.

As FBM says, to the players this is their job and if a better opportunity comes up then they should take it.

This constant "You left Southend so I hate you" attitude is somewhat pathetic if you ask me. But that is just my personal opinion! http://www.shrimperzone.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

Oh why don't all the Do gooders get off their "High Horses"

You must be able to see the irony ....?

Is someone else's misfortune not the backbone of all humour.?

Think of the man slipping on the banana skin.!!

If you are all so concerned about this life threatening injury get a card together and wish him well.

All I can say to Mr Cort is UNLUCKY !!!!! http://www.shrimperzone.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Unlucky for him He may end up like smithy for us where hull never really get to see the best of him which will be a shame. Corty was our best player yes its a shame he left for nothing but unless a player is a true supporter of the club just how much will they want to stay if they get a chance to better them selves. The fans who are slaging the "do gooders" are looking thru blue tinted specs (not unlike those worn by a certain councilor Garne).

09-07-2004, 11:29 AM
Yeah but a Shetland is a "pony"

I said "High Horse" not "High Pony"

Technically if i have used the more generic term such as Equine i would have to agree with you....lol

Roll on the start of the season eh.. there is a distinct lack of football talk at the mo.

09-07-2004, 11:39 AM
Before we decide if the horse is high or not we should either:

(i) find out the height by asking the owner how many 'hands' it has

or

(ii) ascertain if it's a racehorse or not. If it is, then it's bound to be doped and seriously high.

Do I win £5?

09-07-2004, 11:39 AM
Birri ....Please

You must have too much time on your hands.

Get it in to perspective...we are not talking about or laughing about someone getting killed etc...we are not having a dig at people wanting to better themselves.

For Christ's sake he broke his toe ..its funny ...period..why do you have to make more of it than there really is.

I bet your one of these people that are in to conspiracy theories...maybe I'm being paid by a darker force to undermine the club...oooooo !!

some people are taking things too seriously they really are.

look I'm craving football as much as the next man but during the close season you need to channel your thoughts and time in to other areas......otherwise you will become too uptight .....I took up Girls...I'm not that great with them but it kills time till the Cheltenham game.

TAKE A CHILL PILL !!

Think of the man slipping on the banana skin.!!

It's got nothing to do with high-horses, ponies, shetlands or otherwise.
In some ways it is ironic. *But there's a difference between irony and schadenfreude (and here (http://dictionary.reference.com/wordoftheday/archive/2000/05/10.html)'s a link if you don't know what it means).

If it were the other Leon, then it WOULD have been ironic.

South Bank Hank
09-07-2004, 11:43 AM
And it's also not about some people taking it too seriously. You call people do-gooders and ask them to climb down from their high-horses... they might wish to respond to that.

Yeah - totally did us. f**k it - Leon did have a bit of an annoying shaped head and at times he couldn't trap a paraplegic, so yes....I admit it's actually hilariously funny that he broke his toe. Did anyone hear how he did it? Apparently he was listening to Craig David's "Seven Days" and was influenced by the line: "put my foot up her arse on Thursday." Unfortunately it didn't work out for him this timem, but as all the do-gooders are heading up to Hull to cook his favourite meals etc he should be on the mend soon.

Leon Cort's got a **** like a mouse's tail doo daa doo daa

Cort haven't done badly agasint League One club in LDV last season (Luton, QPR & Colchester Scums) there is no reason why he will do well for Hull. I belive he can play at League One level.

Thank for your service at Southend & I hope you get well soon and start playing for Hull (Cort might read Shrimperzone, you never know).

PS: do us a fav & score a goal Vs Col Ewes in a Hull's wins.

What on earth are you on about, Pete?! Leon Cort simply wanted to play football at a higher level. He kept everyone informed of his intentions long before the end of the season (he told me LAST SUMMER that the season just gone was likely to be his last at Roots Hall) and he didn't walk out on us, go behind our backs, or break any promises.

I think a VERY LARGE MAJORITY of fans have wished him luck after three seasons of sterling service to Southend United. I, for one, will certainly NOT be gloating at his misfortune and I know I am certainly not alone ...

Agreed JS, Cort was one of my favourite players of the last few years and he certainly did nothing wrong in wanting to play at a higher level.
i wish him all the luck in the world, and that he gets into the Hull first team and becomes a better player at a higher level/
