It will not be Ruth Kelly we will have to do the sucking up to anymore for Fossetts Farm. She has been moved to transport. Hazel Blears is the new Communities Secretary.

Well according to her biography page on the Labour Party website she is a Rugby League fan, supporting Salford Reds. Now, how can we get Southend Invicta back?

I bet she use to sit as a child in the Salford equivalent of the Gallowgate End, and watch the Salford equivalent of Jackie Milburn, 5 years before she was born.

If she a sport fans that ok by me - better than Sports hater Ruth Kelly. Damm! only if Gordan Brown was a Prime Minster in Febs 07 - we would got our ground by now!

She's actually a fan of dwarf-throwing - in fact she's the dwarf - same height as Darryl - 4'10" !

Ron Martin should get the plan in early and cancel the Public Enquiry on 22nd Sept as Ruth Kelly just bugger off so we get the on with building earlier!

Totally the wrong women, Murkey. Hazel Blears is a Mancunian. Angela Smith is the Basildon MP who stood for election in Southend West originally, and may or may not be from Southend, as I don't get the Echo. Ms Smith is now Chief Whip, I believe?

Well, Hazel Blears has today given the green light for Brighton's stadium at Falmer to go ahead.
An encouraging precedent, maybe?

I hope so, but the Brighton situation is very different from our own. I can't help feeling that the retail part of our plans are going to effectively sink them...
I hope the government prove me wrong!

Yes, it is very different from our situation, but it certainly did not come without controversial issues attached to it, but at least Hazel Blears has shown that she's not anti-football! As long as we can get a positive result from the public enquiry, then surely there's no way she could turn it down.....?

The land at FF has already been set aside for development. If our new ground is not built at FF then the stadium site would almost certainly be handed over for retail development.
The Public Enquiy Panel will visit the site and see the new road, B&Q, Comet, Waitrose & Hospital and hopefully agree that this is the best site for the new stadium.

Indeed, the fact retail units are already being built at Fossetts must mean its not an issue.
