Please don't quote me on this but I have heard some interesting news re the public inquiry.
Apparently it's pretty much a done deal. No-one (not even the government) has submitted any objections. That doesn't mean that people can't object on the day, but if they do, the first question they will be asked is why they didn't submit their objection in advance. If the reason isn't good enough the chairman doesn't have to allow it.
Let's hope this information is accurate.

Hmmmm, interesting indeed. Strange things happen when governments are involved so who knows!
One bad sign is that they have just replaced the taps in the west stand loos. Why invest such money if we are going to be getting a new ground. Surely that money could have been put towards a new player! :D

How long is the inquiry supposed to take?

It's scheduled for 14 days Brettie, but may take less apparently.

Cheers so we should know fairly soon then, I thought it was supposed to last months?

It's not the inquiry itself that takes time, rather the preparation of the resulting report and then the decision-making time of the secretary of state herself.
If there's not many objections though, I presume this will reduce the amount of time taken for the above step.

NO Eldest brother of the "Rock Chicks";) It maybe will last alot less than 14 days but the formal announcement from the government is not expected before the end of the year.:(

I am afraid I don't think this can be accurate. The purpose of an Inquiry where the government 'call in' a proposal is so that an Independent Inspector can determine whether it meets with government policy or not. By calling in the application, the government is not necessarily at that stage raising an objection but simply requiring that all the relevant information is put before a planning inspector prior to a final decision being made. If it was a 'done deal' then the need to have an Inquiry at all would be a terrible waste of both SUFC's and public money.
The bit about objectors is true, but that would also apply to any supporter of the application who hadn't previously written in and suddenly turned up wishing to speak. It is a procedural matter. The Inspector will be wanting to look at all the information now, both for and against, hence the Planning Inspectorate has requested that all further comments be sent in 2 weeks before the Inquiry.
The final decision is probably still in the balance at this moment.
