A bottom 3 should always consist of 3, irrespective of how many are relegated.

Did I mention that this was anything to do with promotion and relegation ? No I didn't think so ! http://www.shrimperzone.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

I would hate to see Chelsea win the title but I've based it on the fact that Man Utd are going to have a shocker by their standards and Arsenal must fail to live up to the high standards they set last year.

BTW - not a bad stab at it Mike. Except that I think Brentford are going to be a surprise package this year.

Mike, just noticed you have Chesterfield to be relegated from two divisions. Is there another financial irregularity bubbling under the surface resulting in expulsion or have you been at the Sangria http://www.shrimperzone.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif http://www.shrimperzone.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif

Not entirely. I don't want to tip Northampton because (a) it's dull; and (b) the ante-post favourites rarely win it (e.g. Hull City, ante-post favourites for the last 2 or 3 years).

After all, if I'd tipped Donny Rovers last season, you'd have probably called me a loon...

http://www.shrimperzone.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif

I don't see why Boston can't do it. Gazza could be an inspirational signing; they've got some (?) forward(s?) from Scotland (although one buggered off again, didn't he?) and in Steve Evans they have their equivalent of David Webb - a man under whom they totally walked to the Conference title; and a man under whom, last season, they lifted from the bottom 4 into the top half of the table.

If we're dark horses this season, Boston are black Derby-winners... I expect them to make the top 3, in all honesty.

Don't normally disagreee with anything you write Matt, and you're right I would have said the same last year if you had tipped Donny, but I just think the whole Gazza thing could explode rather nastily, and the fall-out will severely dent any prospects they have. Agree about it being boring to back Northampton, but I would have to fancy Oxford as outsiders, 14-1 with a striking duo of Lee Bradbury and Tommy Mooney is pretty good odds, also think Chester will do well with Michael Branch up front. Not sure about Mansfield as I think they've lost their better players, hope you're right about us though http://www.shrimperzone.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

Fair enough. I think all of what you say is entirely fair and reasonable. I just don't agree that's all... I'm going to stick with Boston... because of Steve Evans. He's their magician.

Oxford: Rix - overrated; despite Mooney & Bradbury, I'm just not sure they'll gel as a team.

Chester: big financial problems. Clare may be going to Boston (of all clubs), and that will detract from their on-the-field activities.

Mansfield: you may be right. Still rate Bobby Hassell, though - best Left Back in the division (after Nicolau, obviously!).

Would have to disagree with that.
Dagenham threw it away, then Boston had a very good run in and just knicked it, got lucky with their off the field indiscretions and were allowed to take part in the league.

He may be a good coach but his other activities could have had a much much worse affect on Boston, instead it was 4 points deducted and him banned for 18 months.

All this talk of teams and tables. There is only one that matters and that is Southend finishing third. This season no less. If we are not promoted I will run around the Roots Hall pitch naked before the first home game of next season. As I am four stone overweight and my member will never be accused of causing penis envy, I feel I must be showing a great deal of faith in our players. Or maybe I want to flash the wrinkly bits. Who knows, I may get a bigger cheer than the team? Although I suspect it will enable me to emulate the prowess of Blues in that I would not perform well enough to score.
