I know everyone else seems to think this Blue Voice thing is fantastic but i just don't get it. From the above points
1. Contribute towards making Fossetts Farm louder - so thats more singing then
2. To encourage supporters to sing loud and proud - so thats more singing then
3. Help make Fossetts Farm as fun and colourful as possible - Fun? is that another word for singing? & Colourful - what does that mean? where red instead of dark blue?
4. To Encourage supporters to sing for 90 minutes - so thats more singing then
5. To encourage families to take part and feel involved - doesn't this already happen? junior blues, junior shrimpers trust, family fun days, kids for a quid etc etc
6. To welcome all nationalities, colours, creeds and genders to our club - they are welcome already but if they don't want to come they won't.
7. To add more traditional SUFC songs and chants - so thats more singing then
8. Recognise and honour heroes of SUFC, past and present - how? make up some songs?
9. To make the footballing world aware of the immense pride and passion we have for SUFC - the footballing world will be aware how much fans pride their own clubs. I really don't think anyone else will care particularly about southend
10. Help improve the 'togetherness' of our support, with regular Blue Voice displays on matchdays - is the togetherness more singing? and what exactly will a Blue Voice Display be?
I'm not trying to put a downer on any of this but it just seems to boil down to a load of people who want to sit together and sing and that seems about it.
i will now put on my tin hat and await a response

It's easy to be a critique and I dare say any mission statement that's put together could be pulled apart with a little time and effort.
It boils down to one thing really. To improve the match day atmosphere at the ground. Be that by chanting and singing together in one section, waving countless large flags, banners etc or just being part of a section that lets every member of the team know what it means to be a part of the club and also making it as intimidating as possible to the opposing players.
Statement looks fine to me Lee.

It could maybe be cut-down a bit as some of the points are basically saying the same thing ie 1,2,3,4 could be condensed into one point which I think would make the statement more concise and to the point.

But that's basically what any group of 'Ultras' is...
The group came from a common interest in improving the atmosphere at games, which as YB says is a great idea considering the quiet that envelops the home fans at the hall these days!

Something along the lines of
"Helping to create an atmosphere which encourages and motivates both the team and the supporters"
may well cover several of the points in one statement

I can assure you it will be anything but basic.
It will also be a lot more than just a singing and chanting group.
All will be revealed once discussions with The Trust/Club/Police have been concluded.

This is quite a nasty response and possibly a little harsh, but does correctly suggest that the 11 points are a little OTT. I've already said in another post I think we should drop (11), but maybe we could reduce the objectives by at least half.
The point of this surely is to organise better vocal and visual support on match days. And that's it. Everything else is covered elsewhere (by the Trust, the clubs excellent family friendly policies etc etc), isn't it?
We need to keep some focus chaps.

No offence, but to be fair that looks like something given out at a Corporate Event. Any merchandise needs to be forward thinking and stand up on it's own merits.
I mentioned it before, but got shot down (due to the right wing connations) but look at Lazio's Irriducibili, they market their own range of fashionwear & merchandise, and some of it (certainly obviously don't translate between Italy & the UK, they're also still hung up on fake bad looking Burberry) looks quite cool!

With possibly 18 months to go there is plenty of time to get the merchandise/marketing ideas flowing. All in good time

Some great ideas people, keep em coming.
Ok, we need to think about how we can get some pennies in the coffers to help pay for a website and promotional material etc etc..
It's not worth implementing a membership scheme yet as FF is still not decided, so how about a donation option similar to what we have on here, between now and the opening season at FF?..
Would people be willing to donate a few of their hard earned pennies to get the ball rolling?
It doesnt have to be much, a couple of quid would be a start?..
Thoughts?

Nothing in life is free and as you quite rightly point out Lee there is going to be expenses here and there along the way.
Create a way of paying with receipts and I'd quite happily donate a fiver. This is after all being done voluntarily by people in their spare time, or will be, and it's going to be to the benefit of all, no matter where you eventually find yourself sitting in the new stadium.

I would suggest that anyone interested in joining The Blue Voice, starts to think about moving over to the end blocks of the West Stand, Blocks V and W for future games. For those of you with season tickets, think about moving just for a couple of games if you can. Drummers and trumpet players please make your way over to the West aswell! Spread the word guys, all singers in the west stand, starting saturday!

Just read the other thread.
Looks like it will be spread out until we move to the new stadium. Ultimately, you want a presence in all stands but realistically it will be better to concentrate it behind the goal.
Sadly, rightly or wrongly, not everyone wants a trumpet in their ear. Some people will probably find it annoying and the guys trying to get the atmosphere might get a bit frustrated. Quite a lot of grandads and moaners in the West mix as I remember.
Hopefully we can turn the new behind-goal-stand at Fossets farm into an intimidating "Cop like" stand full of noise and passion.
Great idea this "Blue Voice" guys. Keep up ther hard work and hope it all comes off.

How about a range of scarves? Especially if waving them Barcelona style is one of the acts of any TBV section?
That's something that first struck me about games up here, outside Ibrox or Celtic Park on match days there's all manner of stalls selling merchandise (I'm guessing the majority of stuff sold there isn't official, but then again if we're marketing it as a Blue Voice item then we won't be treading on the clubs toes?
My idea would be for a white scarf with sky blue & navy blue bands, with a subtle The Blue Voice logo at one end (or alternatively navy with sky/white bands).
TOFFS have also started to do posh £40 cashmere footy scarves too, maybe something else we could tap in to?

Last season I had the first game in the family section in South Lower. However, I was right behind a post so couldnt even see the goal at that end. I decided to move to the West where I am now.
I just had to pay the difference between South Family and West. The lady in the ticket office (the good one) said I only had to pay the difference between the two early bird prices albeit the one serving me before had said I would be charged the full lot on the West Stand seats.
So its certainly possible but obviously moving particularly from the Family section to other parts of the ground will involve a considerable cost increase.

Agree with SamuraiBlue, surely the worst place for this would be the edges of either the West or East stands nearest the away end. If it is more centrally based other parts of the ground, the singing and atmosphere may catch on, but if it is at the end it is likely to just stay within that area. Let alone the temptation to just have it to taunt away fans rather then create a fun and supportive atmosphere.

Barry Harris was very taken by the Catalan tradition of waving white handkerchiefs/bits of paper in disgust at the end of the game when Barca failed to win. I'm surprised he hasn't done this at No.4 yet.

The central area of the West Stand is 90% season ticket seats already so no chance of getting a group of seats together.
The only place for this is the West Stand blocks near the away end.
I will try my best from the family stand area.

This is truly inspiring, would like to create the southampton mentality, that being increasing the volume of support even if we go behind or the game is out of reach....to keep singing will let the players know we still appreciate their efforts and may lift them to play to the end of the game...
cant get there this saturday but will be at Oxford and Swansea

Does anyone else see this idea of the Blue Voice too fairytail? We have to keep our feet on the ground if we want this to work properly. There are major problems with it that people are overlooking:
1. I was there against Oxford and Swindon, What happened? One block sang there hearts out and tried to build the atmosphere and the rest of the ground shut up. The East Stand or The South Stand never make any noise and only part of the West Stand do. And people are saying that our singing contributions are rubbing off on the rest of the ground?!?!?!!?!?!?!
2. The above point also reflects on this idea of an anthem, if we had one great, but how pathetic would it look if just one part of the ground sang it? I mean really, if you went to Anfield and saw You'll Never Walk Along be sung by a 1/20 of the capacity you would laugh because a) You'd barely hear it b) It would look pathetic.
3. Dedicating blocks to Blue Voice people, jumping into things aren't they? Explain to me how exactly your going to keep the non-singers out of that section. You can't ask them to give you a few bars in the ticket office!
4. We are not that close to the away fans.
5. We should have a much bigger repetoire of songs anyway. If you put it into perspective, this is all we have:
1. Great Escape
2. Aw Wow Wow
3. Sea Sea Seasiders
4. Leeeon! Leeon! Leeon! -Sorry, another thing that has to be said... We have chants for Dean Morgan and Leon Clarke and there not even ours to keep!, the songs for Adam Barret and Macca rarely get used!-
KEEP YOUR FEET ON THE GROUND AND DON'T RUSH INTO ANYTHING, BLUE VOICE!
I just thought this was suited here too...

Just a couple of suggestions...
Some of these might be a bit farfetched/unrealistic, I am 14.
1. The idea for the sea of blue would work well if people were wearing all the same kind of shade of Blue. Because we're going to look like pillocks if we all turn up in different shades of blue.
2. I have seen at big games they have giant rug like things with the crest on. I'm talking like 15ft X 15ft and it would be cool if we could get one of them to pass up and down the West Stand.
3. If we were to get an anthem, when it was playing. Everyone should hold up a blue piece of paper and just turn the stadium blue, like the do at the Kop End of Anfield.
4. This is relevant for the South Stand Only, Sing in unison. When we are doing any song we always seem to lose our sense of rhythm and timing and all get confused. Go with the flow and try and sing in what could remotely be considered Unison.
5. A Blue Voice T-Shirt.
6. This website is very big, if you wanted to make a few bob fill up some of the advertising space with Ads from Google. They look shabby but its just to get some cash.
7. A Blue Voice bank account and use many different methods to have a constant inflow of money and no expenditure until agreed by the majority.
Tell me what you think.
Without calling me a fool. *cough*TrueBlue*cough*

Our home and away kits are different shades of blue tbh I dont think that matters too much
2. I have seen at big games they have giant rug like things with the crest on. I'm talking like 15ft X 15ft and it would be cool if we could get one of them to pass up and down the West Stand.
There are some flags being done a really big one costs a lot of money, see the point you made re money!
3. If we were to get an anthem, when it was playing. Everyone should hold up a blue piece of paper and just turn the stadium blue, like the do at the Kop End of Anfield.
good idea, would be great to get the whole ground doing that
4. This is relevant for the South Stand Only, Sing in unison. When we are doing any song we always seem to lose our sense of rhythm and timing and all get confused. Go with the flow and try and sing in what could remotely be considered Unison.
I think people that sing are too spread out in the South Upper thats the problem?
5. A Blue Voice T-Shirt.
Again i think this has been mentioned
6. This website is very big, if you wanted to make a few bob fill up some of the advertising space with Ads from Google. They look shabby but its just to get some cash.
Thst upto the people that run this site
7. A Blue Voice bank account and use many different methods to have a constant inflow of money and no expenditure until agreed by the majority.

Elliot, some good suggestions there. All your points are already being addressed! Will keep everyone up to date when the blue voice website goes live in the next week!
Keep the suggestions coming.
Ps. we need articles for the site, so if any of you fancy writing a piece on the atmosphere and what can be done now and at ff let me know please.
Thanks

I think TBV need to be prepared to leave the pub a bit earlier (controversial I know!) and get the atmosphere going well before the match even kicks off. When I was watching Football Factories International I noticed the Argentine Ultras were in the stadium about an hour before the game and well and truly rocking before a ball had even been kicked.
Last Saturday against Oldham our lot didn't get started until about an hour into the game! If we start the afternoon on a noisy front foot then it bodes well for keeping the atmosphere going.

i agree that the atmosphere in the stadium does need to get better. i have been sitting in block w for 5 years and the atmospere seems to have just died out these past 2 seasons especially. we definately need something and i think this is a quality idea and will make roots hall a louder place.

This is just an idea, why not spread the word of how great our beloved team is by asking people from around the world to adopt or support our great team.
I myself have joined "Bigsoccer.com" and have started a thread of witch i intend to update as often as i can. (I haven't had a lot of response yet but its still early).

These people will obviously find it difficult to attend games but at least i can keep them up to date as to whats going on.

Yep, it is certainly something we will look into.
There's a lucrative market out there, especially in Asia, If we could get a bit of interest in Southend United and The Blue Voice across the world it can only be a good thing..

One Team - One Passion - One Voice
The Blue Voice: Mission Statement
1. Contribute towards making the stadium louder, and help enhance the match day atmosphere.
2. To encourage supporters to sing loud and proud for 90 minutes at all SUFC games, home and away.
3. Help make the stadium as fun and colourful as possible, again enhancing the matchday experience for all supporters.
4. To encourage families to take part and feel involved in their club and community.
5. To add more traditional SUFC songs and chants to our support.
6. To welcome all nationalities, colours, creeds and genders to our club.
7. To make the footballing world aware of the immense pride and passion we have for SUFC.
8. Help improve the 'togetherness' of our support, with regular Blue Voice displays on matchdays, and event days, which everyone can be involved in.
9. To help the club create a 'united' mentality amongst the support.
Please add any thoughts/ideas you may have on this proposal here.
Thanks all.
A Spine Tingler Anthem Possibility:-
The Warm up of vocal chords: Chant Land...... continuously for about 5-10-15 seconds [the longer the better] to get everyone ready for the off [as with prior to Spurs with their "When the spurs go marching in anthem]
Verse 1
Land of Hope and Blue Glory were from the mighty Roots Hall; we again will be mighty af-ter vi-c-tor-y.
Our piers Wider and Longer, than any in-in the world; Shrimpers we are for-ever... and South-endddd..ss the home of footballllll
Verse 2: Incorporate Tilly, Brush, Barratt & team players names [keep fluid for changes] and needs some additional songwriting talents, which I admit not having !!

Why does TBV have to be dedicated to one area? Why not have representatives in each stand people like Scott who get the crowd going and bring an atmosphere to the stand. Someone to start the chants off, if we have people in each stand to get people going then maybe there might be more of an atmosphere.

But then if the others just stare and wonder wat the heck hes doing it would look rubbish. Say groups of about 10 spread around the ground might work

not sure if this has been suggested before, but why not get some recording equipment into W block and record some chants. Then, get volunteers to make CDs on their computers that could be given out around the ground before home games - the more people all around the ground who have a chance to learn the chants, the more likely they are to join in. It would be easy and cheap to run off CDs - even if 20 volunteers did 10 each, thats a good start. I cant help with the recording i'm afraid, but i'm happy to run off loads of CDs.
