MILLWALL AWAY 16th August 2008;

Millwall is ideal by Train, only Borient could be easier, and these days it has been made safe, I’ve been to the old Den many times before segregation was brought in and it wasn’t nice, but these days a policy of total segregation means you don’t come in any contact at all with home fans and you can go to the game in perfect safety. The easiest route is to London Bridge, then a four minute train journey to South Bermondsey and then a five minute segregated walk to the Away end.

FARES
The fare from Southend stations to South Bermondsey is £12.50 return or £8.25 with a railcard or from London Bridge a massive £3.20 or £2.10 with a railcard. Tickets needn’t be bought in advance but can be bought at your local station on the day.

TIMES
One of the good things about Millwall is that can go when you feel like it trains are regular on both Southend lines, and every seven or eight minutes from London Bridge

You still have to be careful at Millwall I wouldn’t suggest drinking locally but if your going by train either around Liverpool Street or London bridge are ideal.

Details of Coach and Car travel to Millwall will be posted nearer the time.

I'm getting the Darlo-KingsX train down for this one, not been to the New Den before, can anyone tell me if away fans are kept back for a while afterwards - I've seen this mentioned on some Football Ground Guides - or can you get away straight after the game (I'm planning to go via South Bermondsey station)
Thanks
Paul.

Good effort CF coming down from Teeside.

Whats happened previously isn't necessary what will happen this year, but generally you'll not held back in the ground, but might be at South Bermondsey station. Trains are every three or four minutes so you shouldn't be dealyed long.

ShrimperJim has posted the following on Shrimpers on Line:

If going by train to Millwall and there's a group of 3 or 4 of you going, then be aware of the GroupSave 3 or 4 If there are 3 or 4 of you going, you only pay for 2. So, from Southend to Millwall for 2 people a Travel card will cost £25. For 3 it's £24.75 and for 4 it's £25.

Good point about Groupsave. Here's a link to the c2c website info. Headline is that when two adults buy Cheap Day Return, one or two more people travel free.

The Market Porter in Borough Market seems to be the obvious meeting place just as it was last season. details are below:

Found the info on here really useful. Keep up the good work.

I travelled to Millwall last season by train and found the expierence hassle free and very safe especially as the away end has a direct path to the station.

The following was posted on Shrimpers on Line by Nick-the-Numpty:

There is no Jubilee line tomorrow between Stratford and London Bride, so you could go into Liverpool St and get the bus (47, 48, 149) over to London Bridge (approx 10 mins) and then train from there to South Bermondsey. Or if you go into Fenchurch Street, then its only a short walk across the river to London Bridge.

I would also add that Liverpool Street to London bridge is only about a 15 minute walk

DoDtS, I've an unusual request.

What's the quickest route to London Bridge from St Johns Wood? In the event of rain I'll be going to Millwall from Lords cricket ground.

Thanks.

From Liverpool Street its about 15 minute walf to London Bridge, up the escalators turn right outside of the staion keep walking towards the monument and/or London Bridge ask if your unsure, or buses (47, 48, 149) to London Bridge (approx 10 mins) or a cab for about a £5 not bad if there are three or more of you.

From London Bridge its about a 5 minute journey to South Bermondsey about evry ten minutes, where an enclosed walkway takes you straight to the away end.

One last word to any younger people going who are not used to trips like this, London/Millwall is perfectly safe unless you go looking for trouble and/or start shouting your mouths off at the wrong time.

Just be aware and careful and enjoy the day.
