Fantastic idea, this DoDtS!
My question is...Where on gods earth is this place?
I live in Brentwood and am going to the game with a few mates none of whom support Southend but want to see us in action! I can't drive as we're going to get slaughtered so if you have any ideas of how i can get to the ground using public transport i will dish out some green.
Thanks in advance.

public transport is pretty sparse, so best bet is to get a cab from southend and back, and you can get train easily from southend vic. i would roughly guess a cab from southend to wakering would be about 12-15 quid. the ground is behind the high st

Fenchurch Street line goes to Shoebury. If you can get that, it's a short cab ride to the ground.
Otherwise, cab straight from Southend Vic.

You may be slightly better off getting a taxi from Thorpe Bay. It doesn't always have as many taxis there, but due to Shoebury being the last stop, you often get held just outside there for 5 minutes or more waiting for a platform to become available. And I reckon Thorpe Bay to Wakering is roughly the same distance (maybe another 1/4 mile, but no more).
Taxi from town varies, but its usually between £10-20 depending on whether you book in advance or just take your luck

Go to Shoebury and en route call Andrews Cabs to pick you up. 01702 200200

Very impressed Shrimpled going to Great wakering for a mid week game shows true dedication (or madness?)
Firstly the Geography lesson, Great Wakering (incidently the Birthplace of Dad of, Dad of Dave the Shrimper) is a village East of Southend, past Shoebury and last stopping off point before Foulness Island.
No. 14 Buses from Southend Travel Cenre leave at 17.50, 18.30 and 19.04 and arrive at Great Wakering at 18.23 18.54 and 19.26 about a 30 minute journey, so you could save the Cab fare there.
However unless you are only planning on watching the first half, the buses back are 20.40 gets into Southend 21.09 the next one is at 06.14 next morning.
Several Pubs in GW where you could retire afterwards and phone for a cab back to Southend, last train back to Brentwood 11.00 I think). Wouldn't Braintree on a Saturday be more sensible?
Best of luck you may need it!

There are a couple of cracking pubs in Wakering. The Exhibition does good ale usually (though haven't been in since Christmas), and there are a couple of other good ones up the way too if you headed out of town (The Anchor being one with good cheap pub grub too)

Am thinking about going!
Any idea of the prices? Pay on the gate?
And I know where GW highstreet] is, is it anywhere near that?
Having only been two times to wakering - once for a funeral and second for a drive-through, I'm very unaware of whats there or where the stadium is?

Good idea.
I'm happy to pay the £10, but for a friendly against nobody - thats pretty bad.

Remember Great Wakering set the price for the friendly as they are the home team and also some of their friendlies will result in bigger crowds than what they will get for there league season, so the money they make from the friendly games more often than not, will set the club up for the season. So hardly a nothing friendly for them.

Really want to go. Not paying £10 to get in, £10 in taxi fares (cos buses are ****), and to sit on my own.
I'll be keeping up to date on here.

No commentary then? What about Watermill Wino's specials, they were brilliant last pre season?

Doesn't appear he's a member anymore?
Hopefully someone will be able to post updates via someone at the ground.
I want to go tonight, but cos the buses are so f-cked up, I won't be.
