For those of you with time to explore Telford, The Little Gazette has produced its usual excellent Pub crawl for Telford:

It's more a guide than a pub crawl but the C*ck Hotel or Swan Hotel 200 yards from the ground sound good.

If anyone has any other information please pass it on.

hi all a telford fan here.yes two pubs up the road about 2 min walk away.ones called the **** hotel and across the road is the swan.both good pubs and very welcome away supporters.we also have a bar which is called jouhusa,s that is right on the car park the car park on the front.next too the hotel.you really cant miss it.unless your blind.also have bar behind the away supporters.in the nag end.thats were your be standing.thort id try and give you a little help for the beer drinkers.hope you all enjoy afc telford united.

Pubs within walking distance of The New Bucks Head

At the Ground
The Learning Centre – Outside the East Terrace, a small bar catering for around 80 people. It has a range of bottled Real Ales, together with draught Lagers etc. and a large screen TV (Sky Sports).

Joshua’s Bar (The Dug Out) – in the White House Hotel, has a limited range of drinks, lagers and cream-flow beer, No Real Ales. It is also quite expensive.

Near the Ground
The Swan – turn right along Watling street outside the away end – 150yds (just past the Motorcycle showroom). It has a good Carvery and a couple of Real Ales as well as the usual range of Lagers, Ciders and a Cream-Flow

The **** Hotel – Across the traffic lights from The Swan. Specialises in Real Ales, having won several awards over recent years, it has 8 hand pulls on the go at any one time, including a Mild, a draught Cider, a 5% Ale and usually a Porter or Stout. Hobsons Best Bitter is always on and there is also a good range of foreign bottled beers and a couple of European Lager Beers on Pump. There is a brand new Belgium Beer Bar with a good selection on Pump as well as Bottles. Food is Rolls and local Pork Pies.

The Railway – 50yds further on from The Swan. It is nowhere near a Railway! And a locals pub really with a large screen TV, Pool Table, Darts etc. It does serve one Real Ale alongside the usual Keg Beers, Lagers etc.

The Summer House - head back out of the NBH Car Park, over the Railway Bridge back to the A5523, the Pub is on the roundabout (opposite the road to the NBH and TCAT), was until recently a Marstons Pub. Not much is known about the new regime as yet!

Wellington Town Centre
Please note that Wellington is the nearest station to The New Bucks Head *NOT* Telford Central. The ground is about 20 minutes walk from the station, alternatively you can catch either a 44 or 55 Bus (Southbound) from the Bus Station above the Railway Station (alight at the Bucks Head). There are plenty of Pubs in Wellington Town Centre.

The Station – Outside the Railway Station, access is gained by going up the steps to the left of the Pub. Again very much a Local’s Pub, with the normal selection of Beers, no Real Ales.

The Beacon – Right by the Wellington Railway Station. Baracuda Pub. It's to the left of W.H.Smiths. Large Screen TV, no Real Ales but serves food all day.

Bachhus – on Church Street a few yards further on on the right. Large Screen TV. 2/3 Real Ales, normally from Marstons/Bank’s, as well a typical array of Draught Beers etc.

Smithfield – on Bridge Road (down an Alley way to the rear of Bacchus) Has a large screen TV, Pool Table, Darts etc. It Usually has up 3 or 4 Real Ales available and serves food all day.

The White Lion – front is in Crown Street and the rear in Duke Street. This is probably the oldest Pub in town and has two rooms, one with a Pool Table. There are usually three well kept Ales on, Titanic Iceberg being a regular. It also serves good, value for money meals (The choice of the Town Centre Pubs)

Rasputins - Walker Street. No Real Ales but does serve Food

There are several other Pubs in the Town Centre area that are of no particular note and do not serve Real Ales - The Pheasant, The Queens, The Dun Cow, The Three Crowns, Oddfellows and The Kings Head. Taking the rear exit from the Railway Station will lead you to The Plough, the Red Lion, The Park and turning right and crossing the roundabout The Black Horse – only The Park sells Real Ale.

Pussycats – Tan Bank. Nightclub, several Bars and Food

All the Pubs in Wellington Town Centre are within a 5 minute walk from each other.

Other Pubs worth noting
The Bridge Builder - between Junction 6 of the M54 and the ground, on the Wrekin Retail Park. A family eating Pub, has been known to have at least one Real Ale, has a Kids “soft play” area.

The Arleston Inn – a few minutes drive up Arleston Lane (opposite the away end of the ground) a small family hotel with food and a couple of Real Ales.

Fast Food
There are three fairly standard fast food outlets opposite the Ground on Watling Street, MacDonalds and KFC on the Wrekin Retail Park (see above), the usual outlets in Wellington Town Centre including Subway. The best Chippie is Silver Fish found on Tan Bank, Wellington. There is the usual food sold inside the Ground (Pies, Burgers, Chips, Chocolate, Crisps etc.)

The Hotel is the C O C K Hotel, but is blanked out as a swearword if you don't put spaces in between.

the swan just up from hotel mentioned isnt bad either walk back up toward the ground its on thatside of the road cant miss it. good food in there.

I enjoyed the C ock yesterday. The diet coke was reasonable and the pork pies wonderful.
