Please post ones that I have missed!

ermmmm well Hockley is nice but the people are quite simply ars holes, but if you moved Hockley nearer Southend then i guess it would be nice.
But in terms of area id have 2 go for Hockley but if your talking generally then Southchurch/Leigh does it.

I like it where I am in Vange. I live in a fairly quiet area (notwithstanding drunken Shrimpers at 3am), neighbours are really nice and not too far from where my son lives. Been here since I was a toddler and honestly can't imagine living anywhere else at the moment.
If you're talking about nice areas to live aesthetically I'd say old Leigh or Canewdon.

Shoebury was the place to be until I moved out.

Why do you make such comments when there are several people on here who live in Hockley ?
Mrs mcnasty comes from Hockley and I might just give her your address and sit back and watch her rip your head off , you pratt.

U should try living on the high road like i do. It's always noisy at night, drunken people walking home from the Railway and other pubs round here. Nasty!

Or Ashingdon (we have a Historical landmark dont you know a Church with a longboat AS the rafters !!!) And Canewdon has witches (Oh trust me they are real !).
In fact as i recall Ashingdon , Canewdon , Hockley and Rochford are all in the Doomsday book but Southend isnt !

Not too sure on my historical knowledge here, but is that because Southend didn't exist back then. Wasn't it Prittlewell and then from that spurned Southend as the South-end of Prittlewell.

Then I probably walk past your home at least 6 days a week. Not from the Railway, I might add. But on my way to the station and to get on the coach for an away trip. Just watch for the pink baseball cap http://www.shrimperzone.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif That's about the loudest thing where I live!
Totally agree with you, McNasty, about Hockley. Some the nicest people I've ever known lived in the place and 1 or 2 of them still do. To label people like that is plain dumb and insulting. MF should apologise straight off.

Correct and Westcliff came about for it being the West Cliff from Prittlewell.
And Shoeburyness got its name because just off the ness, was the place where they used to bury the leather shoes from plague victims. As these could not be burnt unlike the bodies and clothing.

Back in the day, Leeboy might have been about then, Southend was known as Stretend (not sure about the spelling). Just thought I'd say that.

I know many people in Hockley, i have lived there 4 15 years and i am from Hockley.
There are however some nice people in Hockley, but not a great deal of my generation it has to be said.
Trueblue, im sure Mrs Mcnasty and many others are indeed good people but there are a hell of alot of pr*cks for such a small place.

I think castle point is nice especally benfleet(where i live) its not too noisy or too quiet.
other than that i like Leigh especally old leigh. What i like about leigh is that you are near the sea, its quite a historical town and i love having the sea food down their.Theres too quite a few pubs and bars.
In southend i would imagine the best area is Westcliff or Prittlewell.

I don't know about burying shoes but when I was younger you often used to see a single trainer on a school roof or on top of a bus shelter.
