I think Fossetts farm has the potential to be a hub of activity with all these businesses going in, just can't wait for the final thing to be built now....fast forward two years

Presumably the same Blue Square group who sponsor the conference leagues?

Morrison's do grub right? Fantastic, not far to go for grub before or after the game.

I'd love a cafe or something to be on/nearby the ground premesis. Could turn it into a new Spread or something.

What a great excuse! Ask the wife if she needs anything from the supermarket, say you will go get it but you want to get the best quality so you will be gone a while, go and watch the super blues, pop in Morrisons after the game and get what you need, go home and everyones happy! :)

Works from my perspective too! Can pop in on way home after the match - they do great fresh pizzas IIRC!

Morrisons do decent Northern style Meat and Potato pies. Stock up on them pre-match in case the catering is as crap at the new stadium as it is at Roots Hall.

Aren't you missing one important factor that means a supermarket cafe cant be the new Spread?

yeah they're excellent. Meat and Potato pies are a northern export that should definitely be provided in every Football Stadium... the food of kings

People who shop at Waitrose aren't going to lower themselves enough to shop at Morrison's my dear fellow.

How will this affect food sales in the ground? I know hot burgers/hotdogs etc.
wont be sold at Morrisons but it will cut out some revenue from the club for sure.

isn't there a company that does the food int the ground now ? so it wont affect the clubs revenue, unless the club take a percentage of the takings of course.

however, the extra custom that would have been brought there way (possibly), and indeed a factor in why they may have not challenged having a big football stadium next door, is now being stripped away?

Ron will definitely have considered it, maybe the money from Morrisons is sufficient for the potential loss of revenue through catering.

I don't think having a Morrisons next door will affect the catering takings much, I'm sure people have been perfectly capable of taking their own food in to RH despite there not being a supermarket next door (or even eating beforehand).

More importantly Fred, have you given any consideration to the seating arrangements in the casino? Padded? Hard Plastic? Heated? Do we want to be comfortable whilst frittering away what little money we have left in these tough economic times?

I think you will find Waitrose were more worried about the impact of having a Stadium next to them would have impact on their Saturday clientèle, especially the Car Parking.

I personally think the Morrisions will have a bigger impact on Asda, Lidl and Sainsbury than Waitrose by diverting the customers from the Temple Sutton area in to that store rather than the others.

Slightly off topic but a friend of mine lives just off Sutton road down Ruskin avenue an he received a letter informing him that there will be a new block of flats being built along Sutton road next to the off licence (where the recently knocked down garage was), but more importantly it will have a new boozer on the ground floor apparently so this must be off the strength of the new ground being built near there an there being no pubs up that way, anyone else heard anything ?

Map above shows where the proposed pub (Marked A) will be in relation to the new ground.

10 minute walk tops I reckon, to the main entrance.

New Southend stadium to include casino

BY Pete Hayman

Southend United Football Club (SUFC) has announced that it is planning to include a casino as part of a new 22,000-seat stadium development at Fossetts Farm in Essex.

The £46m scheme, which was given the go-ahead by the government last September after being called in for a public inquiry, has now been altered to incorporate the proposed casino, as well as a new football academy and a retail development.

According to the Southend Echo newspaper, SUFC chair Ron Martin said that the proposed football academy would not be viable unless the casino, which is set to be operated by Rank Group, was included in the plans.

Martin told the newspaper: "When we were approached by Rank Group to include its planned casino for the town in the development, it was the obvious answer. Without it, the football academy we are trying to provide would not be a feasible proposition."

The amended proposals, which were discussed at a meeting of Southend Borough Council's economic and environmental scrutiny committee on 20 April, still have to go through the full planning process.

Has anyone ever been to a nice pub that was built into a block of flats?

I know I haven't.
