With Ron Martin wanting to build a new stadium with an initial capacity of 22,500 (Trust Newsletter), what are the fans feelings on this. I personally feel that it is a bit over the top, and around a 18,000 cpacity stadium would be ideal to start with, with room to expand.
Opinions...

I believe RM said that he wanted a stadium that could be upgraded to 22,500 in the future, i believe he plans to build around the 13,000-16,000 mark.

What exactly did the Trust newsletter say with regards to capacity? Was it an initial 16,000 with room to expand to 22,500? Reason I ask is because RM has acquired less land than he originally wanted, would this affect capacity?

Wouldn't it affect the commercial developments i.e hotel, casino, restaurant etc rather than the capacity ?

That sounds like a fair capacity. i do think though, it would need to be able to be extended if needs be ... http://www.shrimperzone.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif

Too be honest I can't see a need to build any bigger than 16,000. We're a small club close to London and we're always going to bleed to support to our larger and more successful neighbours up the Thames.
Having said that I've just thought about Reading and what they've achieved since they moved to the Madjeski stadium.
What I wouldn't want to see is 5,000 crowds lost in a 25,000 stadium like Darlington.

Like Wessex Blue said, it shouldn't be too big. The Colorado Rapids average about 20-25 thousand a game, but they play in 75,000 seat stadium. This leads to a terrible atmosphere and drives attendences down as a result.

You've surprised me with that comment, I always thought that college football in the states had massive support.

16,000 to me is perfect, if and yes its a big if we are in League One and switching to a brand new modern stadium then we should be targetting 10,000, maybe more. There is no sense in moving to a smaller stadium than RH, 16,000+ is rather ambitious and we could be faced with the Darlo problem. So if we have a 16,000 with a option for 22,500 then surely we get the best of both worlds.
I just hope we don't get a bit of a shoddy plastic job (Deva Stadium, Sc**thorpe, Sixfields etc)
Perhaps RM should visit the Majeski Stadium, KC Stadium etc. If we have anything like either of those we should be in for a treat.
