ok my favourite race meeting of all year, out of interest pick one horse in the whole meeting and see if you are a winner at the end

My race cert is Denman in Friday Gold Cup can get 4/1 which I feel is too generous, but its drifting so will wait until the day perhaps

William Hill. Best Price Odds. Fact.

Which is of course arrant nonsense. Will they be best price on every horse throughout the 26 races of the Festival? Of course they won't.

I'm really looking forward to the Festival; that roar from the crowd when the runners set off for the Supreme Novices' Hurdle is something else. No bets yet, but will be placing plenty of mug Lucky 15s next week no doubt.

William Hill. Best Price Odds. Fact.

I use William Hill, and there is some truth in that. If you take a price (ie 7-1), and the winner comes in at 8-1, they pay you the higher price, on all UK racing. So you always get the best available

Only had 1 early bet on Cheltenham, in the Wordl Hurdle on Thurday. EW on sentry duty, in the race which should go to Big Bucks

Just got this from bet365, one of SZ's affilaites:

"All eyes will be on the Cheltenham Festival between 16th to 19th March for one of the biggest Horse Racing meetings of the year. The action builds up to the all important Gold Cup on Friday 19th. As well as our Channel 4/1 Free Bet Offer and Best Odds Guaranteed, we are also offering our bet365 Price Promise. Throughout Cheltenham Festival week we will be constantly updating our prices to ensure that we are best price on every horse for all UK mainland races! "

The Channel 4 Free Bet Offer to which they refer is - back a winner at 4/1 or bigger on a C4 race and get a free bet on the next C4 race.

I've gone with that Paddy Power offer. Backed McCoy's mount, second favourite Get Me Out Of Here. If Dunguib wins, money back.

Note that the money back offer applies only to the win part of your bet, so if you had £5 e/w on a horse that was unplaced, you'd only get £5 back, not the whole £10.

Looking at the Ladbrokes fieldbooks, this has by and large been a horrible day for punters. To borrow a line from this morning's Independent, there will be Irishmen having to swim home after Dunguib's defeat!

Unluckiest horse yesterday Many rivers lost by about 6 lengths and staying on like a train in the Peddlers Cross race, but was badly hampered at the second fence when Ruby Walsh fell and lost a good 10 lengths ( Guess who backed him ), well worth a look if it runs at Aintree ?

Galant Nuit last race Ferdy Murphy and Nina Carberry looks a good eway,I allways do Sue Smith in the chase meeting and she has a runner in the first race with R McGrath Gansey

He's never run in the National, but was 4th in a decent race at Cheltenham last year.

The horse gets more media coverage than he probably merits as his owner - Lord Oaksey - used to be a Channel 4 Racing presenter and does a lot of work for the Injured Jockey Fund.

Bloody hell. Arcalis, as a course and distance winner, was on my shortlist but I ruled him out in favour of Tawaag. That's a nice bit of place money gone begging.

Would have preferred denman/imperial commander, no the other way round. Had £2 each way at 8/1 on Imperial.

Winner. Also did Carruthers and Mon Mone each way.

I'm guessing B365 are only paying out top 3? That's the third horse (out of 4 I've done all week) that has lost out by inches on winning me money.

Yeah. I also put £1 on Imperial Commander EW too.

The only reason why I bet on IC is because I had the number 6 in my head all morning. Quite lucky that :)

Yep, first 3 on the Gold Cup.

It's been that kind of week for me as well. Ho hum.

It's been a fantastic week for the bookies though. A colleague has just been down to our Trading Dept and said he has never seen so many happy faces.

Wel done there Cyril; 16s now. Looking at the form, I couldn't work out why he was such a big price

Anyway, my e/w Luck 15 today is as follows:

Barizan
Tawaag
Restless Harry
Tricky Trickster

Pfff, one place and three losers. Had Barizan won I would have been in profit (double the odds for one winner in a Lucky 15) but he didn't and I wasn't. £12.50 loss there, plus a £20 loser on Kauto.

Don't get me wrong, i've had a few a few losers this week (Tricky Trickster and Carlo Brigante so far today!). Just worked it out and this week i have picked 4 winners (Menorah, Big Zeb, Thousand Stars and Baby Run) and had another 8 that have placed!

In total have bet on 19 races so far, so to win on 12 of them is pretty lucky!

Don - since when have you been a horse expert!? Thats bloody good going. I managed one win (Albertas Run) and one place (Denman) out of 10! Pretty poor. Alot of the 16-25/1 horses seem to have won, which i normally would have a punt on, but thought the favourite's would edge it today, but this obviously wasn't the case as the likes of Tito Bustillo, Trust Fund and Quel Esprit all let me down!
