Wretched to Poor: 1 week
Poor to Weak: 2 weeks
Weak to Inadequate: 2 weeks
Inadequate to Passable: 3 weeks
Passable to Solid: 5 weeks
Solid to Excellent: 16 weeks (ie 1 season)

mcrabb
09-03-2005, 11:55 AM
Oh well. As long as I make some money on him I don't mind. I also noted that winger and scoring really isn't a good match. If only it had been passing...
Since I got my youth team to excellent I've had some real dross come through. Had about 4 players with a TSI over 200 (excluding two keepers that always seem to have higher TSI) in the last season and a half. The rest seem to have weak or lower for their stats.
I was wondering if there was a prime time to promote your youth players. I don't know how they generate new players - I'm sure it's fairly random - but it seems that if you wait a couple of days (e.g. promote a player mid-week) then they tend to be better than if I promote someone on Sunday. This is probably complete coincidence though.

MrB
09-03-2005, 12:12 PM
I wouldn't know, I've never had anything above passable except one solid passer with bog all else! My youth squad will move to excellent either this week or next but I'm not expecting much improvement.

I guess you just have to sit, wait and dream for that 17yo excellent U-20 prospect!

mcrabb

My best two have been a solid keeper and a 17yo solid playmaker, solid scoring. Unfortunately the 17yo was the week before the end of the season so he wasn't 17 for long. Still it sounds like I shouldn't complain, it's more than some people have had.

Excellent from day one? Blimey, took me two seasons to get that far.

Since I have reached excellent I've been reasonably pleased with the results. One player, a 17yo solid PM and half decent secondaries sold for £300,000. Two of my current trainees were 18yo solids (one a high solid with inadequate passing, the other sadly turned out to be a low solid) and I've currently got a solid PM listed (see previous page) who is going to get sold for a mere £6,000 unless a bidding war errupts in the next couple of hours. http://www.shrimperzone.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/suspect.gif

I've also had a string of 18 or 19yo passable who have provided the odd grand here and there.

I'm still waiting for that uber trainee, but otherwise its ticking over nicely.

Matt the Shrimp
09-03-2005, 04:51 PM
My Youth Team started off as "excellent? yer 'avin a larf", but now it's "reasonably excellent". *I've had:

*17 yo solid striker - £135K
*18 yo solid striker x 3 - £50K / £76K (latter after training) / one currently for sale
*18 yo passable wingback (i.e. pass wing & def) - £50K
*18 yo passable defender - £20K
*19 yo excellent striker - still got, now an outstanding 22 year old
*19 yo solid playmaker x 3 - £50K x 2, £60K x 1
*20 yo solid keeper - trained to excellent, sold for £330K
*20 yo passable keeper - trained to sold, sold for £120K

Oddly, one of the best was a wk 2 17 yo inadequate striker whom I ended up keeping, and whom I flogged the other week for £737K as a formidable 19 year old.

Most of the other good transfers I've made are either pure luck (selling a solid 19 yo striker in my first week and picking up a whopping £340K for him), or as a result of training - e.g.

*Cabanilla - bought as a low solid striker for £72K, sold as high solid for £120K
*Askenbom - bought as a passable striker & passer for £70K, sold as solid in both departments for £213K

and best of all

*Tobiasen - bought as passable scorer and solid passer for £68K, sold as excellent scorer and solid passer for £400K

http://www.shrimperzone.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

So, all in all, I guess I'm in favour of youth policies. *As a final thought... mine seems to have got a fair bit better since I appointed a solid coach. *I know they're not supposed to be linked, but I think they are.

That said, it's only recently that my youth team has really started to bear fruit - and I'd guess that I'm now on my 4th season of it being at excellent, I think. *So I've shelled out a fair bit as well...

http://www.shrimperzone.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/oops.gif

P.S. Inherited an excellent YT?! Jammy swine! I inherited a poor/weak youth team (whatever the lowest level is), and have had to build it up from there...

That's handy, I listed a passable playmaker (my only original player left in the squad) for £30k and within 20 minutes someone had bid £60k! Excellent stamina & set pieces and passable passing probably help but he's 22 so is hardly going to be a great trainee (though I'm fairly sure he'd pop to solid with a couple of weeks IM training).

Oh well, that money was burning a whole in my pocket... *It has now been blown - namely £1.39m of it.

The really bad news: for a midfielder, he has weak stamina; so I'm going to have to make a decision this season - probably once I'm safe and once I've sold one of my young strikers who has popped to brilliant - to spend at least 6 weeks training stamina (maybe even more - eek!) which, of course, will murder my form.

The not-so-good news: he only has wretched experience, but he's 22... so I guess that there'll be time for that to rise. *He also only has poor leadership, so there are limited "future coach" opportunities there. *And the wages are punchy... a cool £4,700 a week.

The not-too-bad news: weak form... but I'm not going to win the league this season, so I can live with that. *Weak passing is not great, but not awful either.

The good news: passable scoring - plenty of goals from midfield, perhaps?

The very good news: the TSI... a whopping 11,510... despite the weak form and the weak stamina... which means:

The whooping, punching the fists with delight news: magnificent playmaking. *Hence why I had to have him, despite the weak stamina.

When he played as a winger towards the middle he a week ago, he got 2.5*.

Surely he's at least 4 as a designated inner midfielder

I saw that, not sure what the previous owner was up to.

As a magnificent playmaker with weak passing and passable scoring, once I've got his stamina up he's got to be at least 5* on passable form, I reckon.

I say that because my formidable midfielder regularly gets 4.5* on solid form or better...

Massive increase in form across the team this week. One 17 year old defensive pop to excellent http://www.shrimperzone.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif plus another couple due to pop to the same in the next week or two http://www.shrimperzone.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/blues.gif

It gets better... the striker I listed for £20K, well someone just paid £100K for him.

Talk about overpriced!

I'll finish the week in the black now, which ain't bad when I've just spent £1.39m. Marvellous.

The striker that I listed for £100K didn't get any interest at all. So much for my confidence that he had a higher TSI. I probably should list him for less.

I tend to list most of my players for £0 to encourage a bidding war.

Last week for the first time I listed a player I'd trained up. I wanted to ensure I got a good price, so I listed for £800,000 (he was a formidable striker with inadequate passing). I had no bids.

I listed him again the following week for £500,000 and the lower price saw more teams take a look at him and he eventually sold for £878,667.

MrB

It happened to me last season, an excellent defender with good secondaries. *Listed him for £400k - no interest. *£350k - no interest. *£250k - sold for £420k!

I usually list for half the expected selling price.

12-03-2005, 10:50 AM
Yep - my policy is the same as MrB's, with the caveat that I have a "reserve price" in my head beneath which Iwouldn't b prepared to et the player go. That said, the resere is usually about half the markt price.

So,Iwould have let that guy go for 20K, albeit reluctantly. I was expectig him to go for 40-50K. In the end, I must have had almost thirty bids before one punter upped the 2% increments, so that it leapt from 56K to 100K!

http://www.shrimperzone.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

In contrast, the midfielder / coach I sold last week was a key player for my side, and could thus only be replaced by a really good signing. So, his reserve was 300K. I only received three bids for him; luckily, one of those upped theante by 100K and heended up selling for 408K!

http://www.shrimperzone.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

It's fair to say I'm having a purple patch in the transfer market...

Right, must go - I'm on my mate's computer in Lyon (hence my log-in name) and his French keyboard is doing my head in!

My youth team moved to excellent this week and here's the result:

Billy Artz (57724581)
18 years, passable form, healthy
A pleasant guy who is balanced and honest.
Has disastrous experience and passable leadership abilities.

Speciality: Powerful

Nationality: England
Total Skill Index (TSI): 1 260

Stamina: weak Goaltending: disastrous
Playmaking: poor Passing: passable
Winger: poor Defending: inadequate
Scoring: solid Set Pieces: disastrous

Needless to say I'm reasonably pleased with that! The 3 players I sold yesterday netted me £220k leaving me £100k in the black. I have a winger selling tomorrow who should net £50k and transfer compare is telling me anything up to £300k so I should be able to go shopping!

See you later for the matches, another borefest on the way for me!

A lesson to be learnt. I listed this guy at £100k to try to spark early interest, didn't get the first bid till about half hour before the deadline and he ended up selling for £150k. Very similar players listed at £250k sold upwards of £350k!

Ho hum. At least we're £300k in the black.

I suppose it all depends on your valuations.

£150,000 is still a fair bit to pay for an 18yo solid half way through the season, albeit one with passable passing.

He seemed to have decent TSI, but most of the other players on transfer compare had higher.

£100,000 didn't appear to be that much of a bargain to me, I'd have suggested £30,000 or £50,000.

57693702 16/03/2005 990 £366 667 18 passable

57663541 16/03/2005 920 £300 000 18 passable

57725823 16/03/2005 1 200 £238 000 18 passable
57724581 16/03/2005 1 260 £154 000 18 passable

Age = 18 & Scoring=solid & Passing=passable

There's mine at the bottom, I'd say I was quite unlucky! Some of the others weren't even youth pulls.

I've decided to finally sell my experienced Israeli centre back. He's been a great player for me, but I need to bring on some young talent that don't take such a long time to train.

Moshe Machnes (13630679)
30 years, weak form, healthy
I speak Hebrew!

A nasty fellow who is fiery and honest.
Has inadequate experience and inadequate leadership abilities.

Nationality: Israel
Total Skill Index (TSI): 1 730
Wage: 816 £/week including 20% Bonus
Owner: Crabby's Crunchers
Warnings: 1
Injuries: Healthy

Stamina: excellent Goaltending: wretched
Playmaking: wretched Passing: poor
Winger: poor Defending: formidable
Scoring: passable Set Pieces: solid

He's listed for £500K. Not sure if this is overpriced for a formidable defender, but I sold a 29yo excellent defender for £400K last season so it seems reasonable.

My youth pull was rubbish - TSI of 70
