Anyone going? Any ante-post tickets being tightly clutched in anticipation?
In answer to my own questions - (a) yes, on Gold Cup Day and (b) I've got Recession Proof at 16/1 (now around 10s) for the Supreme Novices Hurdle.
If you are going to be punting during the Festival, please bear in mind the ShrimperZone affiliates, who you can find on various signatures (detailed below). If you back a winner, fantastic. However, if you're unlucky enough to back a loser, ShrimperZone will get a small percentage of those losses, which all go towards Cricko's anti-ageing cream the maintenance of the site.

Yeah, I'll be backing Menorah. Thinking about Ghizao in the Arkle, trainer Paul Nicholls has been talking him up.

Friend of mine seems to think that Silver Gypsy at 33/1 is worth an e/w flutter in the 4:40. I'm hesitant to say the least, but he has a habit of picking up these.

Bored at work so we worked out some trends for the first 6 races this afternoon!
The highlighted horses are who am backing in the place pot bet
Race 1
This is an amateur riders race and the longest race at the Festival. Jonjo O’Neill has won 4 of the last 9 renewals.
5 and 6 year olds have very poor records. Only one winning 6 year old since 1989 and no 5 year old for over 30 years.
Only one winning favourite since 1992.
25 of the last 27 winners finished in the first four on their most recent start.
Aberdale 12/1
Race 2
6 year olds have a good record in the race having won 6 of the last 10 renewals.
Horses finishing 1st or 2nd on their previous start have won 26 of the last 27 renewals.
Only one winner older than 6 years since 1974.
Nine out of the last ten winners had already won over at least 2m 4f over hurdles.
So Young 5/2
Highland Valley
Rock on Ruby 15/2
Race 3
There is often a shock thrown up in the Royal & SunAlliance Chase with winners priced at 33/1, 25/1 and 14/1 in the last ten years but 3 of the last 4 favourites have won.
7 and 8 year olds have a great record having won 14 of the last 16 renewals.
22 of the last 23 winners finished 1st or 2nd in their previous race.
Time for Rupert 9/4
Wymott 10/1
Aiteen Thirtythree 8/1
Race 4
This is normally one of the smaller fields of the meeting. Favourites and Arkle winners have a strong record.
There has only been one winner older than 10 years old since 1997.
8 of the last 10 winners had previously competed at the Cheltenham Festival.
All of the last 10 winners had won at least once in that season.
Outsiders are uncommon, with 26 of the last 29 winners being single figure odds.
Masterminded 7/2
Woolcombe Folly 8/1
Race 5
The first big handicap hurdle of the meeting and is always a lively betting heat. Only one favourite has won in the last ten years but there are often some big gambles.
8 of the last 10 winners carried 11st or less to victory.
6 of the last 8 winners won last time out.
7 of the last 10 winners were aged six or seven years old.
Aegan Dawn 6/1
Race 6
This is a relatively new race on the Cheltenham Festival card having started in 2005. Nina Carberry won the 2005 running becoming the first woman since 1987 to ride a Festival winner.
5 of the last 6 winners won their previous race.
All six winners were by a Group 1 winning flat sire.
All six winners did not win until their third start over hurdles or later.
Whitby Jack 12/1
Paintball 8/1
Kayef 20/1

No worries, that bet's helped me recover some pretty poor form today... I've only had Big Zeb placing since that. Still, I've got Paintball in the 4:40 and Raise the Beat in the 5:15 to resuce the day.
First race tomorrow is the Jewson's, right? Then stick your free bet on Wishfull Thinking.

23-03-2011, 03:37 PM
Should have thought to dip in on here earlier but after my picks were down about 50% of stakes on day 3 I guess I'd have lost the faith by then.
Managed to get down on Gold Cup day and agreed on Bob's Worth about the atmosphere. That said, I think the atmosphere around me was pretty good when Zemsky was romping home for 85!!
Will duck back in for the Grand National tips thread too. Silver Birch and Don't Push It have both done me well in recent years but will see if I can get 3 out of 5 this year.
Was anyone bonus bagging this year? Some of the new customer offers beggar belief and there's easily 4/500 to be made each year. In fact, I advise most people not to open up high st bookie accounts until Cheltenham because of that. Generally better off punting in the year with the likes of SBO or 188 if choosing not to go with us (Betfair)
