Brian Lloyd (couldn't catch or kick it)
Chris Ramsey
Joe Allon (Worse than me!)
Steve Hatter (who only ever headed it straight up!)
Owen 'slicer' Simpson
Richard Young (Pile of poo)
Neil Campbell (although he scored 2 against Orient so it's not fair)
Okay that's a start!

Very hard to play a normal formation as most of the worst players are fowards.

Here's my selection... crumbs, we've had some dross at Roots Hall in recent years:
Prudhoe
Cross Morley Jordan Booty
Connelly Alderton Gooding Livett
Campbell Belgrave
Subs: Southall, Fitzpatrick, Roach, Richards, Marney
It was, really, only the full-backs I agonised over. "Boots" is unfortunate, since I think he was a half-decent right back. He was, however, a shambolic left back.

Derek Payne is a bit unfair...
Granted I was only a wee nipper at the time, but I used to like him. In the Fry days he had some great games - post Fry he tended to look a bit of berk more often than not, blundering quite frequently, but even so thanks to his Fry-era performances I'd be shocked if there hadn't been a worse midfielder in 100 years of Southend United (ok 98.5...)

Hmmm, maybe I was a bit harsh on Derek Payne. He did after all slap David Speedie. For that one act I'll drop him to the bench and introduce Simon Livett, an awful player whose performances I'd managed to forget until MtS's post reminded me.

Good point. I'd introduce Derek Hall then.

Indeed, Livett was a titanically awful player whose only ability was at dead-ball situations, where he had a reasonably cultured left foot. *In every single other respect he is, by a country mile, the worst left midfielder I've ever seen at Southend... almost Connelly-esque in his ineptitude.
