Was just used on the name game on BBC's 'Question of Sport.' They never got his name but nice to see an ex-Blues on the show.
I looked on the soccerbase website and searched on him to find he has only scored one goal in 19 league games. Not good at all. I never thought he was all that bad a player when he was at Southend but he isnt doing very well now!

Wasn't it 'They think it's all over' rather than 'Question of sport'?

He really was not that bad. He was pretty sharp, with speed and scored the occasional goal.

He was a bloody shambles of a player, a disgrace to the bloody shirt with a shocking work ethic. He show-boated, flattered to deceive, and had an extremely poor goals-to-games ratio.
He is where he deserves to be... with Farnborough, in the Ryman League.

yes- and they had him as a Yeovil player, which is several years out of date.

I actually agree with FM on the subject of Belgrave, at least to the extent that I thought he was an OK player. I'm not saying he was a world beater, but his partnership with Bramble was, after Carruthers and Tolson, IMHO probably our best forward partnership since we were relegated from the first.
Admittedly that says more about the (lack of) quality of forwards since we were relegated from Div 1 than anything else. Nevertheless I maintain that the Bramble-Belgrave axis should have been given more time to develop the potential so devastatingly displayed in 45 minutes of magic against Rushden.
Whilst I wasn't at the infamous Essex Senior Cup game, I saw Southend lose plenty of demoralising away defeats, such as losing 5-1 at Hartlepool, in which Belgrave and Thurgood were the only players to come out with any credit. Whilst his work ethic might have been lousy at the end of his Southend career when he'd fallen out of favour with Newman, at the start of his career it was examplary. Belgrave was by no means one of the worse players to have pulled on a Southend shirt, although there have been many much better.

Matt, I don't care if his work ethic was good at the start of his career - many others have fallen out with managers in recent seasons and kept going. It got tough for Belgrave, and after that he couldn't be bothered, and that for me is disgraceful for anyone who likes to call themselves a professional.
However, I do concede that things may have been different if he had been allowed to continue his partnership with Bramble rather than being shunted out of the side when Graeme Jones arrived. But the win against Rushden was Clark, and not Belgrave-inspired, if you ask me. If Clarky hadn't been on, Belgrave wouldn't have scored twice, simple as that.

True, he should have kept going, but the point I was trying to make was that he at least tried at the start. As we know thats more than many of our players in recent years have done.

But Belgrave had very little ability. That's why he's playing for some tin pot side in the Conference now and that's why he played for a very average Southend side.

Exactly- surely if he had a bit of talent he would have been in one of the better teams in the Conference!
