The opposition would be Globe United - they have a pitch - but they are Division 1 Sceptre League -

Personally I don't think we'd learn much - except how to pick the ball out of the back of the net (though we're not bad at that http://www.shrimperzone.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif)

Need urgent thoughts from everyone ASAP Please.

Not being funny, but do u think it'll help our moral if we play against a team that'll thrash us?

I played against their second team last year, and they weren't up to much. We also watched part of their first teams game and it wasn't a fantastic standard. They're not having a great season either : Sceptre League (http://www.sceptreleague.fsnet.co.uk/)

I say why not, but then I don't think they will necessarily thrash us.

The best 2 leagues in the Sceptre League are 5 and Prem - 5 cos of all the new teams, there isn't a lot of difference between the rest....

Personally I think it would be a bad move, whilst I understand what Steve's saying, you don't get to the 1st without being half decent. I think it'd be a step too far.

However if it goes ahead I'll be happy to play.

I'd say the Prem and the top 4/5 of Division 1, the top 3 from Div 2 to 3 are quite good and the top 2 from Division 5 are really good but I agree with Steve that theres not too much between everyone else. Although Division 5 has some new teams not all of them are going to be great in the long run, I reckon you could probably beat or have a very close match with the bottom 3/4 in DIvision 4 or 5. Globe did have 2 teams last year but I think the first and 2nd teams both lost players in the summer so they merged back to one team again. They finished about mid table in Div 2 last season but applied and were accepted into Division One this season.

just spoke to one of the lads I work with, he plays for Woodside in Div 1 - he reckoned Globe are no great shakes so I don't think you've got too much to woory about. I don't think they'll be as good as that side from Div 5 (Garvary?) that put 9 past you.

I think we need as many games as we can get under our belts.
I may not be able to play as for some stupid reason went and got my foot stamped on last night whilst celebrating 3 great goals.
Hurts like hell at the moment, which is why I am sitting here with ice on it.

Personally I think we should play, as you learn more from games than training.

For the record ... i don't think we should play. Although games are at a premium and we're not playing much as it is, i just dont think playing would be the right thing. I'd rather we built for the new season with everyone getting fitter and fitter and although it would be bloomin' nice to play ... a Div 1 team is a step too far!

Spoken to Andee - who was gonna speak to Unc -

They haven't phoned me back yet but if they do I'll see if I can buy a bit of time until the morning.

I'll have a 30 millisec window of opportunity tomorrow with meetings (I can't work from home or conference in), kiddie school play and driving down to Ashford for the 17.59 Eurostar.

Life in the fast lane isn't wonderful.

Right - off for the 9pm FGE (again)

I say play as it would benefit us from playing. Also we need to keep the heads up if we do get mashed. The point is getting to play in match situation which will benefit us all if we keep the right frame of mind.

I spoke to Unc and he feels the game would be more beneficial than another training session. He also said that we have more to gain from this match then Globe do. Of course a Div 4 or 5 team would be preferable but we need to start getting a least one game a month and with the way matches were being called off recently this will be come even harder to organise.

I reckon you should go for it, if it was one of the stronger Div 1 teams then I reckon you would go down by double figures but I reckon you will probably face stronger new teams in the bottom division next season then Globe.

Shame Old Shoebury are not free for a game this week as they are propping up Div 1 with 0 points from their 12 matches!

I think we should play, these friendlies are not about the score line it is about how we are coming together as a team, we have some 24-30 weeks before we start the season and most of that time will be spent training.
The most important thing is to find out who can play, if we can only put together 12 or 13 players then we should look at the option of just training.
The only thing this team will get out of beating us 10-0 is a bit of confidence but for me everytime we play you get to learn more and more about the squad we have, if we play this game and they play great football form start to finish and score great goals and play us off the park then we have made the wrong choice and will be out of our depth but if we dont play like we can and stop working and fighting for each other then we have let ourselves down and thats when you find out what sort of players we have, who can we look to when the chips are down who will give everything and a bit more, and we need to find these things out before next season.
So lets make sure we have a good squad of players first and then I say lets play.

I've played against them before and we walked all over them. Having said that they are ok side, I'd play them just to see how far you've come if anything. Playing the weaker sides is all well and good but you need to step up against better sides sometimes.

You'll learn a lot more about yourselves this way.

Blimey, only just heard about this!

I say "yes", we should play them.So what if we get hammered, we're not expected to win so let's just enjoy ourselves.

Remember a little LDV game against QPR? Who gave the mighty Shrimpers a chance.....no-one.....

You can do all the training you like but you need to play matches to see how players are gonna play in a competitve match.

They might be great in training against people they know but you need to see what they're like against people who aren't afriad to put a hard tackle in, if not some people may get abit of a shock when you start in the league next season.

i seriously think we should play, there's no fitness like match fitness!!
Plus my brother plays in sceptre 1 and he says theres only a couple of good teams in it. I reckon that even if we do lose it won't be anything we can't handle anyway.

I'm in.

I agree. Have played for Ramblers several times this season in Division One and the standard isn't up to much at all - it's likely that the competition will be no stiffer than anything we've come up against in the past.

If it's on, then I'm game.

<span style='font-family:comic sans ms'>Play. Training&#39;s all well and good, but we need to be more familiar playing as a unit, as opposed to playing against each other at the end of a training session.

Get whacked? They&#39;re Div 1, so we have an excuse. Beat em? We&#39;ll be feeling good....</span>
