I'd probably wait until he popped again, he's only 19 so it shouldn't take too much longer and then sell him at the beginning of next season, also it might depend on if you have significant cover for him.

I'm currently in a similar situation, I had a 19yo pop to formidable and have taken the decision to sell to get myself a formidable striker (having spent the proceeds of my last two youth pulls on two formidable IM's). Listed him for £500k and have already had a bid despite the deadline not being until tomorrow.

I'm doing it to try and stay up though. Assuming you continue to have no aspiriations to go up this season you should keep him, selling at Formidable at the start of next season would enable you to buy two decent midfielders to help you push for promotion. Assuming you keep training defending he should pop in Week 2 or 3.

Excellent - thanks you two - I have no promotion aspirations this year so I think I'll hang on to him - Not managed to better poor (very low) for my midfield this season and invariably end up with wretched (very high).

I'll probably invest heavily in midfield between seasons which should make up some of the difference. Heaviest league defeat is 4-2 twice so the margin between success and failure isn't too vast.

Herein lies the best feature of defensive training. With 10 players on the go and easy tracking of when they'll pop you can plan your future easily. I currently have

1 x 19yo formidable
1 x 18yo formidable
3 x 18yo excellent
5 x 18yo solid
Plus my inadequate defending, world class SP future project.

The 19yo is being sold this afternoon for £500k+. With that money plus the cash received from recent youth pulls we'll have equipped ourselves with 2 formidable IM's, a formidable striker and a solid 17yo YP. We'll then be structuring our pops to end up with 3 groups of trainees split by age, the first 18yo excellent to pop will be sold to strengthen the team leaving us with 3 18yo formidables. Two of the 5 18yo solids will be sold at excellent to leave us with 3 18yo excellents. We'll use money gained to pick up another 2 17yo solids to leave us (by the end of the season) with:

3 x 18yo formidables
3 x 18yo excellent
3 x 17yo solids
plus SP trainee

In this time we'll have upgraded the rest of our team to formidable giving us the basis to comfortably stay in Level V (our chances have been increased recently as one of the managers has dropped out and set his team so everyone else gets walkovers).

We'll then skim one off the top and add one to the bottom when one of the top guys pop to keep a steady stream of income.

Now there's a mission statement borne from a determination to do feck all this afternoon! I'll be hopefully watching the bids fly in....

I wish I could be as organised as that.

Also quick couple of questions

If I play a 3-6-1 would I still get training?

And do wingers pick up the same amount of Playmaking training as IM's

1. No. Maximum 5 in midfield (3 IMs and 2 wingers)
2. No - 50%

£700k and counting. All the better as my two formidable IM's cost me £570k in total!

£800k and counting! ORM, this should hopefully convince you to keep your player until formidable!

Woo hoo! £950k!!! I'm off to spend spend spend!!!

MrB

Well, that £950k didn't last long. However we now have 3 formidable IM's and a formidable scorer that we didn't have at the start of last week!

£950k!!? For a 19 year old formidable defender.

I'd probably get about £400k for my 19 yr old formidable playmaker, I think i'm training the wrong skill.

Yep, I'm convinced ! A great summary earlier. My other defender that has popped to solid is up for sale but I can wait for a couple of months or so for the opportunity to use £500K to improve the midfield.

It won't last forever, with the strengthening of defensive ratings a lot more people started training defending at the start of this season. Consequently the market will become a bit flooded with defenders next season. I'm cashing in while I can!
