I've a hell of a lot of respect for David Pleat's footballing knowledge. He is one of the few pundits who knows anything about the lower divisions. He did a brilliant job for Spurs as director of football in ensembling the best in young English talent which will earn Spurs millions. He's also got IMHO a decent mangerial record at both Spurs and Luton.

Incidentally Howard Wilkinson I think was the last Englishman to win the title in the top flight. Mind you hasn't done anything good since.

Finally, the bloke who has just been appointed at Pompey was at Troyes in the early to mid 1990s, which would mean that his star striker was Sada N'Diaye!
