Carrying on from the other thread, it was confirmed today that Hornchurch FC have ceased trading and have been replaced by a new team known as AFC Hornchurch. The Management duo of Tony Choules and Carl Taylor who were brought in after the previous collapse have had to leave, and I should imagine that the entire squad that the club had to assemble after the financial crisis have also gone. I imagine to a lot of you, this might not mean that much, but as my local team, and a team who I went and along and watched whenever possible, especially after the good times and the money had gone, I'm gutted for them. Here's the statement left on their Official Forum:

Firstly thank you all for your patience and support throughout the past week. It was much appreciated and helped enormously in what was a very difficult time.

As you are all aware from previous announcements, the Football Club had proposed a CVA to its creditors in an attempt to settle the remaining outstanding debts. Unfortunately this proposal did not receive the required 75% majority vote.

The Directors of Hornchurch Football Club Limited immediately sought the advice of its Accountants and Lawyers and were advised that, under the circumstances, the Company had no option but to cease trading and subsequently the Company was placed into Liquidation on Wednesday 11 May 2005.

A new Company known as Hornchurch Football Club (2005) Limited has been formed and the Company has received the consent of the FA and the Essex FA to play football within the pyramid as AFC Hornchurch. The Club will be advised as to what League it will be placed in after Thursday 19 May by the FA. (Although the Club have actually applied for a place in Ryman Division One the decision is fully in the hands of the FA.)

The new Company has applied to Havering Borough Council for a new lease on the Stadium which is being considered at the present time. In the meantime the new club will continue to use the facilities at the Stadium under the terms of the existing roll over agreement.

The Affiliated Social Club, and its Bar and Restaurant are not affected by the Liquidation and will now be affiliated to the new football club and continue to raise funds for it.

Due to the much reduced budgets being prepared for next season, both Tony Choules and Carl Taylor have recognised the situation that the club now finds itself in, and have this morning taken the decision to resign their positions. At a much troubled period in the Club's history both Tony and Carl brought much needed smiles back to the faces of the Urchin faithful. They have done a tremendous job and everyone at the club is grateful for what they have done, they will always be welcome at the Stadium. Thank you Tony and Carl, you will both be much missed.

Club stalwart and current Youth Team manager, John Lawrence was offered the position of AFC Hornchurch Manager this morning and immediately accepted that offer. His team of Alan Moulder, Paul Marler, Barry Fox and Del Edkins will join him.

The Club shall run a First Team squad, a Capital League Squad and an under 16 team next year. The existing under 19's will be amalgamated into the new setup.

You, the supporters have been fantastic in large numbers throughout turbulent times and regardless of it all you have not wavered in your support. With our heads held high, this is the beginning, not the end. Up the Urchins.

Jon Smith & Jennie Cliff.

Can't believe this.

Hope AFC become a good replacement for them http://www.shrimperzone.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif

Best wishes to the new AFC Hornchurch wherever they may play.

Remember going there years ago in a Essex Thameside Trophy game in which I seem to remember Chris Ramsey scored in as well as Big Roy. Also enjoyed a half-time race round the running track in the pouring rain.

George Borg you are the "proud" winner of the 2005 Award for the most Vindictive and Grudge-Bearing person in football. Take a bow.

George Borg has been around the non-league scene for seemingly years. A bit of a Barry Fry clone I think. He currently manages Braintree Town I think.

You may remember an incident a few years ago when he was managing Aldershot in the Ryman Prem. After the last game of the season Borg went to a player from the opposing side who used to play for the Shots who was holding out his hand for Borg to shake. Now this player left the Shots on poor terms with Borg, but Borg thinking the player wanted to bury the hatchet went to reciprocate the handshake. At this point the former player pulled his hand away and head-butted Borg, who fell to the floor. Whilst on the floor the former player aimed a successful kick at Borg's gonads leaving Borg in a hideous state that neede hospital treatment to retrieve said gonads from inside his body.

Borg has now returned this gesture on Hornchurch. http://www.shrimperzone.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/down.gif

It has been confirmed by the FA today that they are forcing AFC Hornchurch to play in the Essex Senior League, as their application to pla in Ryman League 1 has been rejected. They will now compete against:

Enfield Town
Burnham Ramblers
Waltham Abbey
Barkingside
Romford
Southend Manor
Basildon United
Sawbridgeworth Town
Concord Rangers
Bowers & Pitsea
Stansted
Eton Manor
London APSA
Brentwood Town
Hullbridge Sports

I'll be very interested to see what the standard in that league is like when I pop along there next season! It obviously depends massively on who they can get playing for them, but they could walk this league. The other clubs are certainly going to get a shock when the Hornchurch fans turn up at the away games!

A warning maybe to Chelsea and, to a lesser extent, Fulham and Wigan?

What happens if the money man pulls out and you have an infrastructure and long term, big money contracts you can't afford?
