Right, time to get our CC promotion bandwagon back on track - it has been severely de-railed by Northants and Worcs. Aargh! *No sooner do I say that, and Jefferson's gone and lost his bloody wicket again!!

Good grief. *What a wretched run of form he's enduring at the moment...
http://www.shrimperzone.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif
Anyhow, Essex won the toss, elected to bat, and are now 8/1 in the third over with Ali Cook on 2, and everyone's favourite Kolpaker (aka the lesser of two blooms) with him on 0. *Should be riveting...

P.S. Has anyone else almost failed to notice that we've got a Test starting tomorrow...?

Well, Grant Flower really justified his selection there. *Out for a duck.

16/2, Bopara in now. *Crumbs, quite glad I didn't make that promotion bet now.

78/4... both Cook (42) and Bopara (18) gone now. Andy Flower and Sir Ronald are in. They have both got to come up with a big score now...

Essex's batting is simply awful at the moment.
In the first innings of the last 3 Championship games (and the current game looks liking being equally bad), plus the last one-day game, Essex have scored a grand total of two 50s! That just isn't good enough.

Well, Sir Ronald and Andy have shown their class. Essex 215/4 at the moment (Flower 61*, Irani 69*). Ronnie's going at a cracking rate - 69 off 109; Flower's taking it more steadily at 61 off 161.

That will be the kiss of death to one of them!
My point earlier was going to be one about partnerships. To build a decent score you need at least one partnership of note. If only one batsman passes 50 in the innings, that isn't going to happen.

Current partnership - 204 runs. Fair bloody play to both of them, I say.
Essex - 280/4
Irani - 99*
Flower - 94*

Yep, 308/5 is honours even - maybe even Essex slightly up; it certainly did not look that way when Flower & Ronnie came together at 76/4...

maybe a day down at Headingly tomorow then.
Either that or a day sitting in my bedroom with my revision notes.

Well, Goughie's having none of this night-watchan nonsense... he's only gone and knocked a half ton!
Essex 369/5 in the 122nd over... a 5th batting point might be on the cards, which looked hugely improbable at 78/4. I'm amazed!
Flower - 121*
Gough - 50*

Essex 622-8 dec. Goughie made 93, and when Fozzie went for 92 they called it a day on the innings. Middlebrook finished 44*, and Andy Flower got a massive 188.
Wow, all 5 batting bonus points and 622 runs in the bag - that looked very unlikely at 74/4...!!
http://www.shrimperzone.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
Good time to declare - put them in for an uncomfortable 45 minutes at the end of the day. Goughie, naturally, gets the privilege of opening the bowling. C'mon Dazzler!

50/2 - that's a cracking day's work from Essex. Big day tomorrow... don't forget, Yorks have got to get 473 just to avoid being made to follow on.

Gough nabs McGrath LBW. That's a big wicket.

Looks like our total is looking a tad too large, can't see us getting 15 wickets in 4 sessions.
