Matt the Shrimp

Artful is correct, although the necessary implication of "Dear Sir" "Dear Sirs" or "Dear Sir/Madam" is that you don't know them, otherwise you'd write "Dear Mr. Smith".

So:

Dear Sirs - Yours faithfully

Dear Mr. Smith - Yours sincerely

Hope that helps.

You're quite a character, Mrs. McScriv - you'll have to get your beau to introduce us...

Besides, with a girlfriend for a journalist and me as a lawyer, I'm well aware that wordplay & foreplay are entirely compatible.

Still, how on earth did I let the rareified tone of this thread veer towards the Zone's collective navels?! I dunno...

Slipknot are, surely, somewhere between Thash and Nu Metal? Certainly not grunge at any rate.

Supposedly, one of the Busted trio went to the same school as me (although, obviously, about a decade after I was there...). So I should like them... but I don&#39;t. It&#39;s still boyband pap, in a different package.

Showing your age now Durera. I am sure FM did not mean Poison the group as he seems to be just naming songs.

Poor old Poison you mean you dont like their classics like Every Rose Has Its Thorn or Nothing But a Good Time. http://www2.shrimperzone.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif

They were just a pop version of Motley Crue or Guns N Roses, who brought us Sleaze Metal along with LA Guns and Faster Pussycat. These bands grew tired of the glam look of big hair, make up and spandex *which was rife in the 80s metal scene.

Have to agree RHCP are not as good as their were in their early days but did not get the recognition then. RHCP along with Faith No More were the founders of the musical direction which is now Nu-Metal. I feel Nu-Metal style was really defined when Anthrax teamed up with Public Enemy to give us Bring The Noise. The best of both genres Thrash Metal and Rap.

Busted maybe not be to some people&#39;s taste but at least they play live whenever possible which to me is the main thing about being a band.

<span style='font-family:comic sans ms'>Surely songs titled Poison, you gotta go with the Prodigy?&#33;&#33;

Why did you have Britney if you didn&#39;t like her?&#33;

I think I may have spelt Mansun incorrectly? Is that right anyone? Wide Open Space??

As for Nirvana, I like the way you&#39;ve gone the Kurt angle, what about people have found they like the Foo Fighters, and found Dave&#39;s old work??

I could have sworn Kurt was still alive when I was buying Bleach et al?? And my problem is that you&#39;ve called them &#39;sh*te&#39;, they knocked Dangerous off the top of the billboard at a time when &#39;Rock was Dead&#39;, no doubt they never meant it, but they shaped the ninties... [font=comic sans ms]A worrying memory has popped up. I got Bleach just after it came out, which is kind of cool.

The horrible bit was I actually bought an album from Poison at the same time&#33;&#33; Argh&#33; Can&#39;t remember what it was though, I must&#39;ve only played it once or twice..

Both on Vinyl&#33; Remember that MF?&#33;http://www2.shrimperzone.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

<span style='font-family:comic sans ms'>Eh?&#33;&#33; As I said, Nirvana was a catalyst for a change in music that was being dominated by fabricated music - basically the durge off of Essex FM, you never had XFM back then you know - Radio 1 was still poppier than pop, and everything was inescapable, despite the start of Raves etc in the UK....

But Nirvana was international, and more importantly inspirational to most of today&#39;s bands (even Take That used to cover Teen Spirit for Christs sake&#33;), so how could it be laughable that grown adults wear a dead rock star on their shirts?

However, if you mean those poxy date shirts, or those sick ones with the suicide note on I actually agree&#33;

I also, can&#39;t believe you&#39;re bemoaning the fact that teenagers wear Nirvana shirts - they&#39;re trying to find their identities, as you should well understand....

And what&#39;s more laughable, Meatloaf of Nirvana?&#33;

One of the best tracks on one of the best soul albums of the 1990s.

After New Edition Ricky Bell, Ronnie Devoe, and Micheal Bivins formed a three man group called Bell Biv Devoe.

The album produced five Top Five soul hits in the US-&quot;Poison&quot;, &quot;Do Me&#33;,&quot; &quot;BBD (I Thought It Was Me)?,&quot; &quot;When Can I See You Smile Again?&quot; and &quot;She&#39;s Dope&#33;&quot; - and sold some 4 million copies

P.S. Luke - the Nirvana comment was risible. You are, unfortunately, too young to realise how much of an impact Nirvana made whilst Kurt was alive; almost single-handedly, they created a movement, embodied a zeitgeist, shifted perceptions on fashion and music. They were huge, and that&#39;s why Nevermind is still regularly thought of as one of the top 10 most influential rock albums of all time. It was thus whilst Kurt Cobain was alive; if anything, his death diminished Nirvana&#39;s influence, not helped it to grow.

However whilst i do like some heavy rock and i do like some Kurts music but i find it laughable that SOME teenagers walk around, not know most songs but think that Kurt Kobain &#39;is a rebel&#39; so ill wear a hoddie with him on, im so kool.
