A casual suggestion a few months ago for a way to raise funds for the Shrimpers Trust has since developed into a full-blown effort to generate funds for Havens Hospices and the Trust.

Blues to U's Sponsored Walk - We Need Your Support

In just 4 day's time Shrimpers Trust Members Bryan Woodford, Darren Posnack, Trevor Bashford, Paul Fitzgerald, Alec Trott, Hugh Cumberland and Sarah Zimmer will be walking from Roots Hall to Colchester United's New Stadium to deliver the matchball for the local derby on Saturday 21st February.

The group will be leaving at 7am from the centre spot on the pitch at Roots Hall on Friday 20th February and will walk for 30 miles before stopping at Tiptree. They will resume their journey the next day, aiming to reach the Weston Homes Community Stadium in time for kick-off at 3pm.

And they need your support, but not just in the financial way. The walkers would really like your encouragement en-route as they stride out at around 3.5 miles an hour.

Blues to U's Sponsored Walk - Press Release

Football allegiances will be left at the turnstiles for Southend United fans when they make a pilgrimage to rivals Colchester United for a unique fundraising challenge.

A group of Shrimpers supporters will be walking from Roots Hall to the Weston Homes Community Stadium to deliver the matchball for the local derby on Saturday 21st February. Setting off the day before, the group of seven walkers will have to trek 42 miles in two days, tackling the long and winding country roads and possible bad weather on the way.

For the full Press Release click here.

Out of interest, what happens if you are late? Have we got a spare ball?

Good Luck!

Come on guys, wish them all luck on their trek! Little Havens is going to be part beneficiary. I'm sure they'll be more than happy to accept any donations.

Thanks for the great reception at Col U

The walkers & support team would like to thank all of you at the game today for the fantastic reception you gave us when we were walking around the pitch.

The sound coming out of the stand was amazing, and we all agreed on the journey home that we had never heard anything like it.

We will be posting a full report on the walk along with pictures on the Trust Website over the next couple of days, however we would like to take this opportunity to make a special mention for one of our Walkers, Paul FitzGerald, the Trust Chairman.

Yesterday evening after we had rested and then eaten in our hotel Paul was taken ill and admitted to Broomfield Hospital overnight for tests. He was discharged at around 10am this morning after a night of being linked up to various monitors. Anyway to cut a long story short, instead of taking the doctors advice to go home & put his feet up, Paul felt that he needed to complete the walk so with the support of his family, he started again this morning from where we stopped last night and walked the additional 12 miles to the stadium on his own, arriving just before half-time.

Let's just hope he has now done as advised and is sitting at home with his feet up !!!

Thanks again to everyone who sponsored our team or made a donation.

We will be keeping the Justgiving Website open for a while longer, so if you would still like to make a donation please click here.
