Blimey that hasn't gone up much with inflation over the years! I remember in 1998 it was £50! The reason I remember the price and the year is because I was 16 and got hammered during a France 98 game (funnily enough I can't remember the game) anyway I was in a cab and felt the need to be sick but also saw the sign about the £50 charge so I was sick into my England shirt and sat the rest of the journey holding the bottom of my shirt up with sick inside it, not my finest moment but I avoided the £50 fine if not the wrath of my dad for ruining the England shirt he had just brought me haha.

On a serious note though, your hubby is more than accommodating and that just takes the ****

Thanks! He enjoyed your trip so if you want him to do the same next year do let him know!

The fee is set by the local council, Castle Point is £60, I think TrueBlue can confirm that Rochford's is more, and I suspect Southend's higher still.

A former colleague and friend of mine who booked Kev's taxi last night for a pick up at 1. Changed it to 2, then kept him waiting for half an hour. Someone was being sick in the back of the cab, and someone decided to eat sausage rolls in it. Fortunately a sensible adult had a plastic bag and caught the majority of the sick, there was still a lot of mess, not least sausage roll crumbs everywhere.

Kev's just spent an hour cleaning it up. I messaged my friend to say it was a bit off how the cab had been left, including a couple of photos, and explaining that anyone else would have expected them to pay the local soilage rate (£60 here) and she's gone off on one and blocked me! Safe to say she won't be getting any more cabs locally!
Some people are just scum when they are in a taxi. As for £60 well that is cheap, as it can be a whole night lost earning.

Indeed, that was what I tried to explain to her. Fortunately they were his last job of the evening otherwise he wouldn't have been able to continue working.

Reeves & Mortimer tickets.

A) Not playing London.
B) The Birmingham date is on the day of my wife's Christmas do.

Here we go again. I've had a bit of tennis elbow recently, and any amount of treatment from my wife hasn't made any difference. In the end I went to my GP who suggested some strong anti-inflammatories which didn't work so I was sent to the hospital to see a specialist. He suggested an ultrasound and possibly a PRP injection. The guy that did the ultrasound found that I've actually torn some of my tendon away from the bone and suggested we hold off on injection until the specialist has reviewed the results of the ultrasound.

I had that follow up appointment this lunchtime. The upshot is:
  • no amount of physio will make it better.
  • a PRP injection will do nothing for it.
  • the bit of tendon that has been torn away is in the way, and stopping the rest of the tendon re-attaching itself.
  • this will not get better by itself.
  • I need surgery.

So, the surgeon is now going to have to operate on my right elbow about 2 years after fixing an issue with my left one. I have 3 months of no tennis, and three weeks of doing absolutely nothing with my right hand. Given that my job is on computers that's going to be difficult! I now have 2 options: do it in December when I'll be off work for most of that 3 weeks anyway, or do it in March, which is at the end of my current contract. The problem with the former is that I'll be next to no help with the kids when they're off school at xmas, meaning that my wife will have to stop work for that whole period as well. The problem with the latter is that I might struggle to get a new contract. I think the best is to do it in March and not tell the people I'm currently with. If they then start to discuss a new contract I'll mention it after they've already agreed. I'll just have to tell them I'm unavailable for a month...

The tour was mainly earlier in the year i think, I saw them in Southend in February. I think these dates are just the ones postponed when Bob Mortimer had his heart problems.

The can't-take-their-drink-****stains that just dragged our bins along with two of our neighbours up the road then dumped the contents in the road. Made my ****ing night clearing that lot up. *****. And people wonder why I want to move abroad.

And that is one of the reasons we did just that.

The cost of boat insurance.

£70 to keep the Benfleet navy patrolling the high seas for another year...

We keep getting insurance companies calling to discuss the claim we've just made.

(Before anyone thinks this is out of order, I told my wife and she found it funny.)

I received one such call about a month ago. The lady said she'd like to discuss the car insurance claim we made recently regarding a car accident I was in. I strung them along, but said it wasn't me it was my wife, and that it was about time the insurance company rang me back. I could hear the lady on the other end of the line express surprise that she'd actually caught someone. We went through dates and car details (all made up I might add), and then she asked what injuries my wife sustained. I said she had broken her neck! The lady on the other end then panicked and said she's not able to deal with that, and put the phone down.

I love a good cold call.

****ing arseholes having fireworks night a week early - bad enough, but they're banging so loud it's like ISIS is in town.

The city of Portsmouth is responsible for a dodgy bit of paving which has managed to trip my 79 year old mum, and she's sustained a double fracture in her wrist. Though, having said that, the people of Portsmouth were lovely to her and looked after her and my dad very well....slightly concerned that she now has to go into Southend hospital for an op!:'(

So, this local "eco-centre" offers free pumpkin carving with tea & cake, so drive over there and the ****ers ran out of pumpkins yesterday but a) didn't answer their phones when I rang up to check and b) Didn't advertise it online until after we turned up, only to be met with a luke-warm apology.

Luckily found a local garden centre doing a fab one with a wizard and girls dressed up as pumpkins.

Hugh Fearnly Whittingstall's roasted pumpkin soup recipe. If I ever see him on the street I will strike him to the ground.

At least it flushed easily.

Is pumpkin the ****test vegetable ever?
