    I would have played Laird instead of Thompson- I am not aware that Thompson has ever played CM and the last time we did something similar and put mark Phillips there it ended in terms. Far better a CM in a CM role- these things are not learnt in 2 hours on training ground- but what do I know

    Laird picked up a knock on Saturday that's why he isn't starting

    Mr Brown did say in Echo Papers, that he wanted Thompson to protect the back 4, to allowed the like of Clifford, Timlin, Atkinson, Corr & Stranker to go forward.
