Good to see Joe Sibley, there.

Back a few years ago, Joe was a client of mine. Lived off the back of Southchurch Road, not far from Bournemouth Park Road.

Often used to pop back to see him, after my day's work on the road, for a chat about old Southend matches.

Just lifted this off Twitter - no explanation or details given with the pic, it was just from a poster who sems to like putting up old pics of fans from any club. Anyone shed any light on this pic? Maybe a bit of trouble brewing!

Difficult to date, that one is.

I'd have a punt at late 70's, maybe even the game at home to Lincoln in April 1981.

Yep thats the 81 Lincoln home game. There were quite a few photos of that game both in and outside the ground on an old Lincoln web site.
Photos were taken by a Lincoln fan.

Blimey, that was a guess on my part.

Tried to Google the image to see if there were more, but no luck so far, though I did find this one, from the match itself, which may have been posted before :-

This was taken from the blog where the picture came from :-

"The match of the season proved to be an unexciting event. Southend angered Imps fans by charging £4 for City fans to stand and watch the game whilst only charging home fans £2. The Imps fans responded with a verbal battering for their hosts and were described as a ‘most unpleasant lot’ by Shrimpers officials. By kick off events off the pitch had threatened to overshadow the action on field. City took the game to Southend and pressurised the host’s goal early on. As the game drew on Southend came forward and City in the end did well to hold on to a 0-0 draw. It may not have been the football festival that it could have been, but City had once again succeeded in blunting the threat of the leagues top side in front of 12,000 fans. A big match hangover seemed to affect the Imps as they lost at Field Mill in mid April"

Dont recall Imps fans being charged more, but do remember Southend fans getting into the South bank and it all kicking off
.How they can tell who pays more entering the South bank,Southend or LCFC,i dont know.
Thought it would be in the papers, because the trouble in the South bank was bad, even for those days.
Maybe a hangover from the late 60s(away)
Do remember after the game i was "off" again to Germany, meeting Joe in London

Digging around for something else, found this pic. Not sure if it's been posted before :-

Slightly off track but thought this might be of interest to some. Did some work recently for a local cartoonist who specialises in football. I brought a sufc history cartoon and it is brilliant. For anyone who might like a look the website is www.footballcartoonhistories.co.uk.

Bought mine about 4 years ago from a shop in Leigh Broadway. He had loads then (I think I paid £20), including others clubs plus local histories as well. Not sure if he is still there though (for those who know Leigh it was in an alley opposite the Post Office in Rectory Grove).

Yes ,that's roundabout the same time I bought my print, probably for the same price.Think the price the guy (now?) charges for international "shipping" is a con.at 50 quid.Certainly would never have paid that much when I bought.
