SOUTHEND United midfielder Gary Deegan wants to repay manager Phil Brown for saving him from the footballing wilderness by winning promotion with the Shrimpers this season.

I'm liking him even more after this. He's not in the first eleven as much as he should be, but he says he's never been happier in his career at any club. I think most fans would say we fell apart after him and Timlin went off on saturday and went from solid to butter. We need that ball winning steel in the middle for the run in, and someone to bully the opposition, so I hope he starts more games.
 
Loved this guy from day 1. A real dying breed in the modern game.

Oh, and he has a fantastic beard!

You could see that in the way he celebrated after Corr scored his penalty. I'd love him to stay here and sign a long term contract
