full details on academies are here for anyone interested, financial compensation is dealt with on pages on pages 96-100

good luck to him. good that we re capable of producing good youth players. poor that we have to let them go. poor that we are clamouring to sign players over 30 and on the decline.... priorities need addressing

We're a lower league club, ergo we are a selling club, unfortunately. The rules are rigged in favour of the big boys.

As long as we can produce two players having a long-term future in the Championship or higher each year, investing for Cat 2 should theoretically pay for itself according to my (very quick) maths.

The problem is that we don't all have access to your PC!

it sounds pretty much like a disgusting stitch up then where the bigger clubs make the rules and the rules say that is costs nothing to get promising kids off the small clubs

It is and it isn't. The Premier League did have a great sway in the formulation of the EPPP proposals (and did effectively hold the Football League to ransom in pushing them through), but on the other hand it's a much more regulated system than before which all a bit Wild West. We would never have got as much as £50k for Cameron John before the EPPP came into effect, and it acts as an added incentive for a lot of clubs to do more about youth programmes than before.

that's an interesting perspective, didn't know we were so screwed before

And it means that if a real superstar is produced by the club then the money will keep coming in, which has to be better than allowing clubs like us to sell off young players as soon as they can get any sort of fee for them.

So Cat 1 the posh Waitrose Cat food
Cat 2 the Marks & Spencers variety
Cat 3 the Sainsburys variety
Cat 4 the Pound Shop stuff

Waitrose can buy M&S,Sainsburys & Pound Shop
Marks & Spencers wishes it could afford Waitrose and ****es on the two lower Cat foods
Sainsburys looks down its nose at the Pound Shop and longs to stop being peed on by the top two
Pound Shop just thinks bloody arses above and I will use the Sawdust infused rubbish we have and pray we get a gift in one of the cans/boxes of food.

Got two Cats and never liked em anyway

Other clubs such as Wycombe and Yeovil withdrawl their youth accademies becasue of EPPP (there are more , but I cant recall who they are)

Interesting article here from Cambridge on their Youth programme- although I still dont understand how they run it with no funding from the club

Yeah, I remember reading about the Wycombe and Yeovil academies closing down, but I'm certain both clubs used the looming EPPP as a convenient excuse to trim the expenditure from the budget. Wycombe were pretty much living hand to mouth at the time. It's definitely fair to say that clubs were extremely fearful when it was first proposed, but actually in practice the system works far better than how it was before and I believe there is far more funding available if you commit to a particular category status.

Plus, having to have a pre-determined number of full-time coaches at the club can only help standards across the country.
