By the time this is built the dome will be rusted

I was thinking the same thing the other day. It's a right sorry sight. The sign for the new stadium at boots and laces has been there so long it's gone pure white.

What a fiasco

It's really only of interest to those who enjoy the nitty gritty of this sort of thing, but the council have now responded to the club's scoping opinion request and set out what is required from an Environmental Impact Assessment, which will form part of a full planning application. There's quite a lot of work to be done although I assume this has already been started.

Perhaps one small step forward but sadly still no sign of a new planning submission. It will not be straight forward with the increase in resi and retail area.

Everytime I see a new post on this thread I am massively disappointed not to see a picture of Ron Martin with a hard hat and a shovel. Don't know why I even bother checking anymore.

Village People fetish?

I think you need to get help with that. I consider it a form of self harm.

I got speaking to one of the guys in the hotel yesterday and mentioned I was a Southend fan. Turns out he is a lawyer and worked on the finance deal for Delaney about 10 years ago. Obviously he couldn't say too much but he did day RM was very hard to deal with and got a lot of money out of them!

He did tell me who owns British Land, which I wasn't aware of. It's the Ritblatts, I.e. the same people as Delancey. They're no-longer his clients though. Pitty, could have been interesting.

British Land is a FTSE 100 listed company, John Ritblat stepped down as CEO in 2006 but remains honorary president

Delancey was formed by Jamie Ritblat , Johns son, after he left British land in the mid 90's

I guess the deal about 10 years ago would be Rons buyout of Delanceys 50% share in SEL

I'm afraid that could be one of the reasons this project hasn't got as far as it should have done by now. It's all very good playing the tough business man, but it makes it difficult to call in favours when you most need them !

You guess wrong, but that info is interesting.

WHAT A JOKE , I WAS 11 YEARS OLD WHEN RON STARTED TALKING S**T ABOUT A NEW STADIUM - HERE I AM AGED ALMOST 26
Not even one brick has been laid on this so called stadium its getting beyond a joke. I genuinely think I may pass away before I ever see my beloved Southend United playing in a venue fit for purpose.
Every other club must laugh at us!

I might even consider stalking Ron , and nagging him the same way my mother does. maybe if I stick it on him enough times he will get soo wound up with me that he might even ask wonga for a payday loan to complete the project - they rarely say no right?:happy::hilarious::hilarious:

You young whippersnapper. I remember Vic talking about moving to Basildon back in 93.

The Basildon idea made sense really. Lots of space, good rail/bus links, a good road network including a throne's stow from the A127.

There is some news footage filmed at RH just after the Hillsborough tragedy In 1989. The reason they came to RH was because we were about to move from our relatively modern stadium (1955) to a new all seater. A good example for the rest of football to follow.

I will have to dig it out from my mums loft, but I think its the programme from the FAC 3rd round replay with QPR in 1975. There is an article about Southend's future. We had plans to build a new all seater West stand, with a lovely new roof etc. At the time, the artist impression of our new stand would have had some nice people with long haired men in flares and Chelsea boots just getting into their brand new top of the range Ford Capri.......Successful go getters....following a successful club that was definitely going places.
