British Land will fund the first phase of development (widely believed although not officially confirmed to be three sides and 14,000 seats). The sale of Roots Hall will fund the second phase of development (widely believed although not officially confirmed to be the main, 7,000-seat stand).

Pretty simple as far as I can see.

UNBELIVABLE!!!!
A "supporter" encouraging a petition to potentially attempt to stop the development of a new stadium and halt a fantastic opportunity for Southend United.

Beyond words!

Personally I think it takes a great leap of faith to get even remotely concerned about the scheduling and sequencing of the building of the stands.

However, taking that leap, and if the logistics and funding were such that this would be the only way to complete it, it would be madness on the part of any supporters to try to preclude this.

Starting such a petition would be the worst decision I've heard for a long while, even worse than the idea of leaving Worrall and Deegan out of the 18 at Chesterfield.

Personally any venture without the main stand should have alarm bells ringing in every fans ears.

Why not build the main stand first, after all it will house potentially 7000?,then have temp covered stand holding another 7000?

How would the club profit financially from the sale of Roots Hall. I thought the council owned the stadium and the land it's built on (I may well be wrong)?

You are indeed wrong. Ron Martin owns the stadium and land. A deal with Sainsbury was in the pipeline, where we are with that I have no idea.

more a provision to ensure the 4th stand is actually built, rather than stop the development... If we were to end up with just 3 stands, I'd rather stay where we are than you..

No one wants 3 stands it would be awful.

However Im not sure how you can put anything in to guarantee it gets built.
