Isn't that the point though - it's been a year since the exhibition and still no planning application. Has Ron forgotten to send in the form?

The council weren't particularly accommodating in the mid 80s but given the vitriol aimed at them regularly by Vic Jobson it's hardly surprising.

Wont go in for planning until a deal has been struct with all relevant parties. I would assume unless there have been more changes, planning is basically ready to go and probably being sat on until everything else is in place. No point paying the application fee's until you know everything is certain

From memory I got there about 4pm so given it only started at 2pm I think Ron and BL clearly had no intention of sticking around for very long. Steve Kavanagh and Danny Macklin were there when I got there.

I was there around the same time and for over an hour and BL were definitely still in attendance and were still there when I left. I also spoke to Kavanagh.

Anyway that's not the argument. The point is, just like you found out with your badly attended meeting, people have their chance to find out first hand what's going on. Some prefer not to, so they can moan on here and ignore anyone who did attend.

Really? If I had to choose between risking my own money or investing money that I have borrowed and structure a deal to repay them while still making a substantial sum I know what I would do. Ask any “big” property company who have access to 000’s millions of £ and will still borrow money to develop.

I would suggest the reason the stadium has not made any progress recently is because BL are re-negotiating the terms of the deal, to ensure it works for them. Remember it is not just the stadium deal that needs to be agreed. Something needs to happen to Roots Hall and this will all be part of the same deal (and I also doubt it is BL that want the Roots Hall site, as this will clearly be housing once finished, so there will be a 3[SUP]rd[/SUP] company involved).

It will happen, and once it does things will move very fast.

Well I hope you're right.

As you can probably imagine though, not being party to inside info, I've seen many such predictions fall by the wayside over the years.

Hopefully before us long-suffering fans all die.

Why was Steve Kavanagh there?

Yes, that's the case, but as CEO he still should have been (and was) involved in the exhibition.

Should he ? When he has admitted he has no dealings with the new stadium. Or are you saying, he should show a united front and palm off questions in the absence of Ron ?

If Ron wasn't there, then Steve was the most senior club official available and, as such, should have been (and was) there.

As keen as we may or may not be to blame Ron Martin his main fault is to not have the ready millions to do everything himself. Instead he needs partners who then, I am afraid, call the shots financially and also have a major say in what the scheme must look like for them to support it.

With the last scheme it is Sainsbury and not Ron Martin who were responsible for the delay then halt to progress.

Now it is BL who are providing the money, saying what the scheme needs to look like and driving the timescales. Ron will be desperate to speed them up not slow them down- every month we are at Roots Hall is another month of losses.

Ron, as far as all my research can tell me, has yet to be blamed for Brexit. This might change in a big expose down the line.

If BL want it built it will get built- and given they are a property company not a supermarket I have more hope- and my glass is kept half full..

Bet you didn't know there are plans to build 600 houses on the RH site. Oh and Ron has put a restriction on councillors attending matches at RH. Now before you get outraged let me explain. I only found this out when I managed to have a chat with the right person the other day. Not anyone from the club but a councillor who is involved with the FF scheme.

Their opinion is that the scheme under BL will definitely go through. The hold up is because they quite rightly want to make sure all the big schemes work for each other rather than against. So if we are going to develop the 'Golden Mile' with residential and the sea way carpark, then the thinking is lets make the High street a bit more eating and socialising, with big stores at FF.

This would mean no Cinema at FF but at the Sea way instead. The reason you could go to the cinema then for something to eat and drink in the High street. Now I know some off you love to blame Ron for every bad thing in life but he is only one part of the grand plan and along with BL he has to fit in with what the council see as the future.

Now if any councillors come to more than 5 games a season they have to declare an interest. Which means they can be no part of the FF decision. Seeing as the councillors who follow the shrimpers are on our side, RM has quite rightly banned them from attending to many matches, in a nice agreeable way.

In the next 5 years our Town will start the biggest building programme in our life time. Many of you don't vote in local elections and probably have no idea what your local councillor's views are on all this. Now its easy to type uninformed abuse on your key board but wouldn't it be best if you spoke to your councillor and found out the truth. Because whether you like it or not the decisions made now will be affecting us all for the next 50 years.

Don't underestimate the power of your vote. Make sure you use it.

Southend Council are facing stiff opposition to develop on Southend's town centre car parks like Seaway.

Who in their right mind would want to visit Southend by car to go to the new IMAX cinema, shops, or the seafront if there is no where to park?

Parking in central Southend is bad enough now without losing these three car parks.

Very true and I did ask that question. With some changes they will end up with more spaces once everything is completed. One new idea is to use the Gas Works site as a temporary carpark whilst a multi-story is built. Then develop that site to something more suitable.

Edit.. Having now read the link it proves my point about people being uninformed. Even their business reasons make no sense. If you improve the town more people will come and more people will have work.

Wasn't a hotel being built on the old gasworks back in the last ice age (1980's) Another non starter for the town. I hope you're right Rigsby, Southend is dying on its feet.

Assuming I am talking about the right place, but hasn't a new Premier Inn been built there?

Yes, the Brewers Fayre. Went for breakfast once but don't bother unless you like ignorant rude staff and food that's been sitting in warmers for 2 hours.

Anyway there is still a huge area to the left of the hotel. About the same size of the Sea way car park. So a good option as a temporary car park. In fact as it has been empty for years, so you have to wonder why it hasn't been thought of before.

I suspect the reason the area is "clear" is because it is contaminated ground, right where leaking gas containers were; and 50+ years of seepage into the soil makes clear up and getting any type of mortgage on it hard. I was surprised when they built on the perimeter areas.

It is in the hands of a developer at the moment. So sitting on empty land suites them. The council are talking about a compulsory purchase order, so I assume a temporary car park could be several lorry loads of type 1.

When its not needed they would have an option to sell it on. Can't see it being that dangerous as they have already built on half the site. There's an area to the left of the A13 as you approach Rainham where you are not supposed to even walk across the land and they certainly don't allow houses to be built anywhere near it.
